I would expect a bit more consideration from people getting freebies.
People keep asking me to travel with stuff that's not worth a great deal, someone asked me to drive 30 miles to drop something off lately! :eek:0 -
i've had this problem. Offered a computer desk, a girl replied asking when she could pick it up and where etc... so i replied and asked her if she could let me know if she deffinately wanted it, got another email asking for address again!!!! well if she doesn't pick it up tomorrow at my specified time she will have to go to the local tip for it.
I think freecycle is a wonderful idea but in reality a PITAmustn't grumble :cool:0 -
Equally frustrating is when someone says you can have something, you've said when you can come and get it, but they never send their address or phone no and you never hear from them again!
I have emailed the mods and asked if someone's email is bouncing before now, but you don't like to hassle them too much ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
update on my freecycle saga............
emailed address once again as requested and asked for it to be picked up this afternoon ( i stayed home ) and no one came by 5, so i emailed again stating that it must be gone by 6pm.... 6pm came and went but no reply to email or anything. i'm so grrrrrrrrr and won't freecycle ever again, too much hassle, the desk will get the hammer treatment in the morning and be at the tip by 10.30.mustn't grumble :cool:0 -
Freecycle is Great!!!:D Please Persevere with it and do contact the moderators of your group to report no shows etc, they can not act if they do not know!!
I am so sorry to hear that some people have problems with their local groups, this saddens me , this is why freecycle discourages "first come first served" as a priniciple for deciding who to gift your item to .
I got permission to set up my own freecycle group 3 weeks before christmas as the larger group in my area was becoming problematic , people were not turning up to collect offered items , as I live in one of the more outlying villages.
We have 135 members in 1 month and growing.
Previously from freecycle I have aquired the following..... 3 piece suite (nearly new) , 6 seater garden table and chairs for my wedding reception (in a field) , garden games for my wedding , 2 le crueset pots , acoustic guitar , demi johns , jam and pickling jars .
And I have got rid of the following(amongst other things)... 2 working old p.c's , 2 not working old p.c's , old stone bits of birdbath , compost bins , garden storage bins , DVD player , assorted ornaments .....
The possibilities are endless.....reduce ,reuse , Freecycle!Started my own business and loving being my own boss

I wouldn't be too hasty in not Freecycling again. I've been Freecycling for approx 18 months now and given away loads of items. Sure a very small minority don't have the courtesy to follow it through to picking an item up, but there could be other reasons why they haven't picked it up.
I'm actually in the middle of getting rid of some shower shelves. I have emailed a person my address and convenient times to pick it up. He has not responded to my email. Reasons - well, his computer might have crashed, he might have fallen ill and ended up in hospital etc. etc. or he might have changed his mind. If its the first 2, then that's just bad luck, if it's the last one, well that's just bad manners. As I don't know which one of the reasons it is, I just say ho hum and move onto the next person who wanted it.
Freecycle is great and so is the internet for making Freecycle posible.

The group in my area is inundated with wanted posts from traders etc.
Wanted welder, wanted old phones, wanted moorcroft, wanted cornishware etc
Certainly spoiling it as far as I am concerned. Most people overlook opportunity as it comes dressed in overalls, and looks like hard work.0 -
I joined Freecycle recently and the first appeal I answered was collected the very next day (only a thermos flask). I have noticed though that a lot of the descriptions of items are very vague, and I wouldn't feel able to respond without much more info. E.g. '2 seater sofa' to me is vague; it would be better to give the HWD measurements, so a potential taker can work out whether it would go round the turn in the stairs or whatever.:)Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Am getting on very well with Freecycle.
Have always given 'first come first served', but think the 'nearest' poster is best so as to reduce travel and environment cost.
Gave away a single wardrobe the other day and a lady at the other end of town offered to pay me to deliver.0 -
my desk went to the tip...... in the chipboard recycling bin!! so it will have a different use in the near future i would imagine!!mustn't grumble :cool:0
