deary me.
Invitation to treat and all that.
ALL the tired old PPC 'points' have been destroyed time and again.
The law has been applied to Excel several times.
Every set of PPC paperwork I have seen is unlawful, many are illegal.
Mote and eye - spring to mind.0 -

So thats 100% certain, that you can ignore all privatly issued tickets, and no further action will be taken or is it just certain companies?0

In County Courts it does depend to some extent on the mood and whim of the Judge, but evidence suggests you're 99.99% safe to ignore.
I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.0 -

Try reading the sticky threads at the top of this forum if you are that interested then - The illegal methods PPCs use to threaten, bully & browbeat people into paying their "fines" are well described.0 -
Hi
Just been reading the threads while trying to research on the net bout these motorway parking fine's.
I've just received two (£50 each if i pay in ten days if not £80!!) after sitting in my car for 4 hours at Leigh Delamere services on M4...yes I know a long time but my job requires me to be on call within two hours of the airports so its what I have to do and just so happened i wasn't called.
In all the time i sat there in my car! no one came to tell me I was only allowed two hours!!! I feel it's a very under handed way of issuing tickets when you have no idea until it comes through the post! and lets face it, in one huge car park one sign is not enough!
However my question is Do I pay it?? I don't want it to escalate on to court action but as I understand by reading here I could get away with it???......0 -
Just be aware that these are not fines (only a council or the police can levy these). They are an unenforceable invoice. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

I do find the growth of PPC's operating on motorway service areas very disturbing. It is not as though people are parking there and going to nearby shops or work since most service stations are in the middle of nowhere.
I think it is all about generating additional income.
One of the many conditions that a company are allowed to operate a service area is that they provide 24 hour a day facilities for motorists. The police often advise any driver feeling tired to take a break and rest at a service area. By imposing a two hour limit, it could be considered an incitement for a motorist to drive when it is unsafe to do so.
Just ignore any charges from these PPC's, and in the unlikely event of it ever getting anywhere near a court, just argue that you were being a responsible motorist and taking a rest from driving.0 -
Funny that. I also received a "Parking Charge Notice" last Friday for staying 2 hours and 55 minutes - also in MOTO's Leigh Delamere. So join the club. Seems there are a lot of us. My overstay was waiting for the Marks and Spencer food place to open at 8am - which of course it didnt - and having a meal in the meantime. So even when people come and park and try to throw money at them, they cant be bothered to get out of bed. The amusing thing about my "notice" is that it is so badly printed that large parts of it are illegible - I had a job trying to figure out what I was supposed to have done wrong. Also the address of the company is a PO Box so they clearly dont want us to visit.....Probably a sensible precaution as, at this rate, they wont have teacups for all of us. Smacks of one man and a dog somewhere with a cheap computer whacking out notices......Maybe the Sun would like to run a story here - how about the newspaper headline "MOTOway ripoff"? :-)0
