nancmat - I wouldn't hold much hope with preventing stretch marks... whilst having a tummy massage is very nice then I think it's either a case of you get them or you don't and it's mainly genetics :(
I'm really lucky and I haven't (fingers crossed!) got any - and that's despite only moisturing lightly for a matter of a couple of weeks before I got bored with it lol!
Other people I know have poured gallons of specialist products on and still have loads of marks :(
I think the main benefit of these products is to help reduce the appearance after pregnancy and to maybe help with some of the itching whilst the skin stretches...

Tine is right there is no proof that any lotions work although there is evidence that increased blood flow from rubbing bump helps a little plus bio-oil is proven to help them fade for afterwards.
I've been using bio oil for this preg as I already had one mark from my last preg but I've got 3 new ones in this preg :( but I also have a scar from surgery so decided bio oil was the way to go to help fade all of them - I've just got a 200ml bottle for the bargainous price of £11.49 in costco (that size is just under £20 in boots) next cheapest at the mo is Amazon which is I think £11.95 for 200ml if ur interested
