Require service providers to notify their customers near the end of their minimum term contracts.

Once the minimum terms lapse the monthly deal on mobile services are often poor value for money. Yet with contracts so long customers forget when they end. It can also be an opportunity for providers to try and sell new services introduced since signing up the customer.
• I pay my phone suppliers a monthly fee, which includes all calls to normal numbers. Why is it that almost every large company with whom I do business uses an 08 number, which costs me a fortune every time I phone them? Because they're greedy that's why! Force them to list a normal geographic phone number!
• Job agencies should be removed from the job centre website to prevent a false illusion of the amount of vacancies available. I have replied to all relevent jobs on the website and all said they are not vacancies but general sweeps to try and get people to sign to their agency books. Disgusting!
• If companies want to introduce mortgage "floors" for their trackers, then it should also be made compulsory to impose a "ceiling" on the rate. The equivalent difference of the percentage rate from inception of the deal to the "floor" would be fair. I.e. if the initial rate is 5% and the "floor" is set at 3%, then the "ceiling" should be set at 7%.

Remove all small print from legal papers and put it in to a language that we can understand, so we dont have to take a solicitor with us if you sing up for a car etc

Increase the allowances for bringing goods back to the UK for personal goods.

£145 worth of goods isn't a high amount (one pair of designer jeans or sunglasses can cost that much). We pay taxes to leave and return to the UK and we use our taxed income to buy goods whilst we're away and pay taxes abroad!
I understand that this has now been increased? Was reading an article on it the other day - it hadn't changed for 15 years, but apparently now has.

NOT all 08 numbers cost you more, indeed 0845 numbers can be charged at local rate and therefore SAVE you money. I wish people would stop tarring all businesses with the same brush on this one.

Freedom from 0870/0845 only numbers
Increasingly organisations now only have chargeable 08 contact numbers. Most mobile (and many landline) customers have inclusive calling plans which exclude 08 numbers.

Organisations should offer an alternative 01, 02 or 03 number so that customers can choose which number is best suited to them. (see No10 petition: freedomfrom0870)
I know I have a bugbear about this one - I run a small business and have a 0845 number for two reasons - the main one being when I change my premises (which I have to do every so often, and the business has been going for 20 years now) it means people can still get in contact with me (the industry is one where you may only get a job from someone every 6 or so years), secondly though its so I can save my clients money - it charges them at a local rate so the call is cheaper, which we think is a nice little touch. But mainly so we can keep the same number whenever we move (and keep it the same as it's been for a stupid amount of time now). So not all companies that give an 0845 number are out to con you.

• With almost everybody having a TV, the license should become part of the Income Tax like it has been in Holland for some time. It would save millions on unnecessary people in the license office and control department because you don't need them any longer. The government gets the money in via your Income Tax. It works very well in Holland. Everybody happy as nobody gets a yearly bill anymore.

I posted a similar idea basically saying that the government should fund the BBC from the Treasury (making savings elsewhere) instead of the public paying for a licence (which costs money to collect and chase).
