I was in the bank yesterday and asked them why my 'Guaranteed Overdraft' that I could apply to my account has been changed from £3500 to £0.

They said I no longer qualify for an overdraft facility because "there is not enough money going into your account".

I laughed and said... "I'm an unemployed student, I have atleast £1000 going in each month. How much is considered "enough"? £10k? £1million a month???".

    Goodbye HBOS, hello HSBC.

  • After reading in here, I have to ask, why do Sygma CIFAS alot of people, is that not potential risk of fraud? surely they need to actually think your trying to commit fraud?

Once one company puts it on, and if you apply again, does the other company apply one as well?

This explains cifas a bit more: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=25219847&postcount=158

Sygma do it to protect their interests and for you to appeal and prove your innocence - weird french bunch if you ask me lol.

Seriously, you can get it removed if you write in to them - they just add them willy-nilly if they suspect anything dodgy with your application.

  • Can someone explain to me exactly what CIFAS is and how it appears, should it do so, on a credit report?
I had a Sygma bank identify check done back in July after applying to a FlyBE card and never heard a thing after that. 2 further CC applications have been rejected straightaway or ignored since then so not sure if anything connected with this is causing a problem - presently looking at everything for reasons why.

Do you have a credit report? Is there a CIFAS flag on it? If so, which category?
  • Not actually sure what I'm loking for. Took me ages to actually find out what the acronym of CIFAS stood for!

    HUGE thanks to N-I-D!

A HSBC underwriter phoned today and said they've granted my request for a £100 overdraft via my appeal letter. It's showing up online now. Yippee!
