Hey, excellent thread y'all got here!

Can you offer me any advice?

I applied for a Cap One Visa last summer and got a limit of £500.
My CF score last August (according to Experian) was 646. I would hope this is slightly better now with all the green zeroes from Orange and Cap1? (I do have a orange 1 from, er, Orange ( :D ) from 10 months ago though.)

Anyway, I want to chance my arm and get more credit in order to carry on the re-building of my CF. Mrs Sorbet and I have had years with no credit - I lost my job in 2000, house and car repossessed, CCJs etc etc. Only thing on my CF now is a CCJ from 09/2006 for £250. We're not on the electoral roll, but will be by 9th July according to the council.

I currently have a BBA with Halifax and have a good amount of cash (£2000+) going into the account per month. I was going to apply for an upgrade, but had a returned DD this month, totally forgot about it, so that will have knackered my score with them.

So, not sure whether to apply for their CC (everytime I log on they're asking me to apply), if turned down go for a Vanquis card, or for a catalogue.

    Thoughts anyone?

Sorry for the long post, I waffle at this time of night!

Oh, and someone asked about how strict Argos were re acceptance for credit?

Well, fwiw, they turned me down after CapOne accepted me.

Hi Sorbet and welcome to our friendly little club.
Is your ccj satisfied or not?
Being totally honest I wouldn't bother attempting to apply for upgrade on bank account until on electoral roll, will be new application as the Halifax dont do a direct upgrade.
Don't apply for their credit card either yet as the likelihood of being declined is also very high.
You have done well in getting a Cap one with a good starting limit so maybe try Vanquis next, then possibly Aqua but not sure how they are on ccj's
Catalogues, try Jd Williams group, small limit to start but will rise with good conduct.
Try to build up green zero's on file for 6-12 months then you should be in better position to apply for other products.
Somewhere on the forum, a member 'Never in doubt' has devoted a thread to establishing or rebuilding credit.
Can't link to it as I don't know how to
No doubt somebody will find it for you and post the link.
Take your time, keep searches pretty low and pay everything on time.
Don't pay much attention to your Experian score, it is simply a money making tool for them with no relevance really
    Anyway, welcome once more :T

    Thanks Brian.

CCJ is unsatisfied, only just found out about it - it was for a £120 utility bill that a previous landlord didn't pass on to us. Hope to clear within a couple of months.

Are Jacamo owned by the same people as JD Williams? Might try them.

Morning. I phoned Barclays, who said there is no way they can see if I passed credit check for a few days and that the forms must be posted to their head office and not taken to a branch. They said they'll let me know in a few days.

    Anyway, off to work. :(
