Went into my local Tesco's this morning and when I gave the cashier my internet coupons she wasn't sure if they would be acceptable,so she checked with one of the managers. He said that they had to accept them but they would only take three. It wasn't even 10% but as I expected the cashier to come back and say that they wouldn't allow me to use even one I just gave her the three coupons with the highest value. My local is in Huddersfieldif i had known then what i know now0

Tesco in Watford introduced this policy last April. There was a sign at every till, stating that they would no longer accept money off coupons unless the item had been purchased. This decision was made at store level, by the Manager, who is quite within his rights to so do, as I was told by Customer Services.0

That is correct it is national policy but it is down to each manager if they choose to accept or not.
Makes a mockery to me of making it a national policy.

So maybe then no coupons will be accepted unless the item is bought or it won't scan -if so I'm off to Asda.
Higly unlikely that self scanning check outs would become the norm.
Firstly, they are guaranteed to never scan 100% of your goods correctly. Queues form even longer whilst assistant runs around trying to resolve problems.
Secondly, trying to find loose goods and the like on the menu so they can be weighed sometimes requires a Phd in applied logic to work out the mystery of the Tesco corporate mind!
Thirdly, older people find it difficult enough using chip and pin and I do not believ that they would welcome this.
Fourthly, to deal with a full weekly shop for an average family would probably take at least twice the time and probably longer on a self service till. Unload trolley, scan items, weigh items, sort out problems, pack bags, load trolley with packed bags, scan coupons(?), make payment. take change. Not to mention the electronic SA saying you've not put the item in the bagging arae correctly, etc, etc.
We need to see a massive step change in both the technology and practicality of self service tills before (IMO) they could even be considered for a “medium shop”, let alone a family shop. So their wholesale introduction is not likely in the foreseeable future unless the shop concerned wants to lose a massive volume of customers who are either technophobes or have not got hours to waste awaiting a free till.0 -
Wasn't able to use any coupons today at Rickmansworth tesco. They always accept them, i picked a youngish guy on the tills and he said he had to ask a supervisor if he could take them.
Supervisor came over (younger than the guy on the til - looked more like shelf stacker from what he was wearing than supervisor but anyway) said tesco were no longer taking coupons for products not bought due to a big coupon scam that tesco had discovered!! Er ... couldn't be bothered to argue with him so will probably just try them next week with different SA. Not sure if this store has changed there policy or not really as didn't really trust what he said! Very annoying not to be able to use them though since this is coming up to my 4th week of being unemployed! (guess i should have tried to claim JSA or something but kept thinking i would be working soon so those coupons would have been very useful indeed to be able to use)0 -
There are three Tesco's close to me - two accept coupons (or did last time I shopped there!!!!) and the third used to but stopped some time ago. The last time I was in one of them a lady in front with two fullish shopping baskets of shopping paid in coupons - on the first basket I think she paid £1 something on her debit card and on the second basket it was less than £1 - perhaps she is the cause of the problem. I usually hand five vouchers in with a trolley full (someone told me it was five vouchers only - but dont know how true that is!).0
