Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Name Dropper I've been Money Tipped!
I went in to my local Tescos the other day and my husband asked at customer services what the stores policy was.

And it was none really but we might let you get away with one.

So it seems that more and more are clamping down.

But as I hate shopping there in the first and hate putting money in Mr T's pocket it will be a a few months at least before I spend money in one again.

    Yours

I was told the same thing in Tesco today - that the SA had been told this morning not to accept coupons unless the product had been bought. I asked her to check with the supervisor whether this was definitely correct and she asked the SA on the next till who told her nothing had changed and to accept all my coupons! Each SA seems to have their own policy in my experience.

Well I was told today by my friends cashier at tescos that customersa agoing to have to scan their own goods soon as their trial was so successful it will be coming to all stores shortly!

Do you mean that everyone will have to scan their own shopping?

This is highly unlikely in my opinion as they would lose a lot of customers.

They may have more self scan tills, but they aren't going to get rid of cashiers alltogether.

All the self service tills have been removed from my Tesco (Horwich) and replaced with ordinary tills.

    Hi,

Can anyone show me where there are any current vouchers to print off so that I can try them in my local tescos?

    Thanks,

    Riz

There's a few here to get you started

Still accepting vouchers at our local Tesco whether you actually buy the item or not (as of yesterday anyway)

I use the self service tills quite often but can't see how they 'speed up' dealing with customers. I often get problems with the system and have to ask the person supervising to help, these tills seem to be more trouble than they're worth.

As for the 'new' coupon policy it just shows how greedy Tesco have become.

I don't see how Tesco stopping you using a voucher for something you never bought is them being greedy.....

I have a friend who works for Tesco he says that the policy for acceptance of vouchers is an issue that will be dealt with in the near future.

Tesco are currently addressing a number of other issues that are costing them money.

I belive the issue is to do with the amount of administration it takes to deal with these vouchers. That coupled with the amount of time it takes Tesco to recoup the money from the suppliers.

When all said and done Tesco is a business who are there to make money, they provide a service which is obviously successful being Number 1 Supermarket in the UK. Any successful business is always looking for ways to save money and increase profits!

  • I emailed Tesco the other day, and they replied this morning with their official policy. For printed vouchers it seems that if you don't buy the products then they will only accept one officially (but some will accept more). It is still unclear if they mean one of each brand or if they mean one voucher in total.

    My Email:
Please can you explain your voucher policy in stores?
I have got some vouchers I have printed from the internet, and some from
the back of products. Also I have some vouchers that are supposed to be
for other stores (like Summerfield, Asda etc) but friends of mine have
explained that Tesco will accept them (and I am closer to a Tesco that
    any other supermarket).

    My questions are:
1: Do you have to purchase the product for Tesco stores to accept the
    voucher?

2: Do you accept bar-coded vouchers printed out from company websites?

3: Do you accept vouchers from other supermarkets? (and again do you
have to purchase the product for those?)

    Tesco's Answer
    Thank you for your email.

Any coupons, which display the Tesco logo, are Tesco specific. We only accept these if the products referred to on the coupons are purchased. This is because we negotiate savings with our suppliers on the condition that these actual products will be purchased.

With regard to coupons from brand name manufacturers, we are happy to accept one, even if you have not purchased the product. The coupon must be in date and Tesco must sell the item. If you present more than one identical coupon, then you must purchase the same number of products.

This also applies to coupons printed from the Internet. These will only be accepted at the discretion of the Store Manager.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to explain our policy.

If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us at customer.service@tesco.co.uk quoting ***********.

    Kind Regards

I work at Tesco and I've been told only to accept one voucher if they haven't bought the item, so i ask the customer if they'd like the one put through with the most value.

I've only seen Self Service in Plymouth Metro, We don't have them in the Exeter Metro store.

Seems like more hassle than anything, the alarm on the top of the till was going off every 2 seconds...
