I have had a couple of troutings recently. One was for a very high amount that the store wouldn't back down on and the other was for a truely accidental DTD that I got every lie under the sun for (expired SEL, wrong barcode, using SS tills etc etc) so as a matter of principal I argued the case as I was only buying the items as they were on multi-buy.

Did they give you the DTD in the end for those two things then?

Ahhhh it was a golden time ;):D was soo gutted when it stopped, have to buy sunday joints now and Xmas presents. Also gutted when h&b vouchers stopped, they paid for a £3500 holiday and free toiletries.

Got to be 2 years since it stopped, is it?

    H&B Vouchers?

Darn - that's weird. 1.5 hours ago it was scanning at £9.99. Are you in England princesslou? Sometimes there are price differences between countries...

Maybe some more details on the white are in order. It was the First Cape Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2010 Barcode 6 009808 750173. Maybe give it a scan beforehand if it's not working for everyone. HTH

Yeah in england. i feel so sad! haha. its in the car (was so sad I couldnt be bothered unloading it....will do it tomorrow) so will check the barcode tomorrow.

it was from a large Tesco extra, and the SEL was definatley 3 days out of date but it still went through at the discount price. I got the rose yesterday from the exact same stand. Also, the woman in front of my OH in the queue apparently had a bottle of wine (he couldnt see what it was, but it looked identical to the one he had) and it went through at £9.99. she instantly said "errr, no thats a £4.99 on offer bottle". The SA got it checked there and then and voided the transaction!! lucky yet stupid woman. then our 6 went through at 4.99 :( grrrrr. and to top it off, they had run out of the krispy kreme's that i had been promised by the OH! the disappointment i feel tonight is, obviously, unbelievable :(

    H&B Vouchers?

Health and Beauty Vouchers. With these in the right combination you could buy the products and get money off the rest of your shopping.

And in case anyone is wondering, a few people on here are definitely acting out some sort of Monty Python sketch. Apocryphal stories aside, the reality is that anyone with common sense was able to do very well out of R&R.

Anyone being nosy (as I am!!) about the "dark times" during the r & r days, and some of the things that went on, check out website http://www.freewebs.com/sql-provida/csresponse.html
it has a photo of kevin kelly (seductivly sucking his finger!!) and lists of what he supposedly did. Happy reading campers :)

    Gosh, memories!

I certainly endorse what thelurch has said on previous pages, and I speak as one of the R&R "crazy gang" of 2006 who went across the UK picking up free Xbox 360s from one store to the next.

Dealing with Tesco (both at store level and at Dundee level) was was like dealing with the Corleone family in 1930s Manhattan, and I doubt that things have changed much today.

When things got really nasty I took them to court over Mr Kelly's decision to wipe out my Clubcard balance as "punishment". They enlisted Weightmans Solicitors to defend the case but made an out of court settlement at the last minute.

If you're the type who's up for a fight (like I was at the time), then by all means fill your boots and play the DTD/glitch game to the max, but you must be prepared for one dirty trick after another from Tesco. They're bullies, pure and simple, and as others have already said, they WILL use your private Clubcard data to their advantage, however they see fit.

Incidentally Mr Kelly still visits MSE from time to time under one of his usernames. He was last logged in on 23-06-2011 at 7:09 PM. How do I know? Because I still have one of his messages in my PM box from October 2006 where he befriended me for information that he would later use against me (albeit unsuccessfully).

Nice to see some of the old timers on here, by the way, hope you're all well.

For the record, in case you think us oldies are winding you up - this is taken directly from one of the old R&R threads...

"I got my threat of a ban the other night, 2 security staff 1 meat manager and 2 other members of staff there, starts with the request of photo id as apparently my other collegues have been providing false details, then was told that what i've been doing is fraudulant and disgusting, then told by security guy that he has fortage of me doing this frequently (what of me shopping :) ) was told if i did it again then i would be banned from the store, then was escorted out the store to my car where my mums number plate was taken and told that they were calling the police lol.

I unfortunaly i did tell the meat manager to f off which was not the best move but i was in some shock of being accused of conspiricy to comit fraud.

I'm going to be writing a strongly worded letter to head office regarding disgusting behavior of the staff and the slander they were bantering about infront of customers and other staff members."

    And another one
    "
My ban came as a direct result of using the price check scanners before paying and getting R&Rs, I was told by the security guard that banned me that the system was not there to be abused and then told me to leave and not return!

I did return for a meeting with the store manager where I got my ban overturned, in the meeting the manager kept telling me they had seen me scanning items then R&Ring them"

Now to put these in context, 99.99999% of peeps (inc myself) were never banned, or followed, or threatened etc. But even I was younger then, and with hindsight I was a bit reckless.

As some have commented, DTD is addictive. So was R&R.
You get c0cky and take things for granted and assume all Tesco staff are stupid.
My profile must have been sky high in my local Tescos - although I never managed a games console or plasma TV..... mores the pity;)

And here most of us are years and years and years later, 'getting by' with Tescos new policy. We have learned to chose our battles, and that if we don't get greedy with this particular opportunity, we will be able to make use of the next one.....because with Tesco, there always will be another one coming along soon:p

Thanks - well put. There's a tendency to forget just what a ruthless company Tesco is, and the lengths it will go to to protect its profits.

I personally think it's a good idea to have the conversation in this thread as although it maybe slightly off topic on topic, I do understand it means people have to read all the posts. Which although makes it harder for the lazier amongst us to find an easy glitch or dtd, it also makes it harder for any mr t staff to spy as they also would have to sift through the conversations.

Although slightly off topic, the conversation regarding r&r and the friendly warnings should remain on this thread as it is on this thread that most of the DTD chat is found.

I admit I've done very well but I'm finding it hard to play the long game as with the Asda DTD, it could get pulled very quickly. Yes, it's a balance between greed and caution but if it's something I genuinely need/want and DTD is available I'll go for it. I won't however scan things for the sake of it as that's more likely to raise eyebrows. Mind you, the last time I went in during the late evening, the security guard was more interested in pointing the car park cameras towards the houses opposite than looking at anyone in-store. Dirty aul perv
Did they give you the DTD in the end for those two things then?

Yes, it took a lot of work but I did get both DTDs. Were it not for this forum I'd be none the wiser and would simply have been refunded the amounts instead of Tesco staff adhering to company policy.
