  • Permission very much granted! Agree with you about the temp - having put our biggest storage heater on overnight last night I left the settings too low so it never actually charged! Have tweaked it up a bit so hopefully tomorrow it will be pumping out some heat. Am currently sitting here wrapped in my cosy fleece blanket so not too chilly. It was -2 degC when I left home this morning!

The £6 airtime has gone onto my mobile so I have transferred that amount to the challenge account. :D

Permission to have semi-smug feeling removed! Had a KFC last night! :o
And while there, why did I have a Classics meal with drink for £4.50 ish with a drink, when a bargain bucket between us and bottle of coke at home would have been better value . Doh!

So EH, what's the plan for today?

You got some fantastic bargains there EH..it all sounds so scrummy.
  • Urgh - no plan today at all! Stuck to my meal plan for tea tonight and we had a stir fry which also used up a slightly elderly cauliflower and one of the vast number of carrots that seem to be breeding in the fridge! I've got eggs that need using too so we had egg mayo sarnies for lunch today and will have omlettes for tomorrow's dinner - might cook a potato or two and dice up to turn them into tortilla-style ones too. Still got to meal plan for the weekend too but at least we have lots of delicious goodies to eat now. My shopping list for Mr T's on Friday night currently stands at milk, bananas and mushrooms only! Under £5 so far - if I can stick with that I'll be delighted! My budget spreadsheet is ready to go again anyway - hurrah for spreadsheets! :D

Bought a text and a calls bundle on the mobile today as well - they should go on within 48 hours and give me texts for 5p and calls for 10p p/min so will be better value especially with christmas & new year texts within the month.

The storage heater did charge up overnight thankfully - so it's a bit warmer tonight and that will gradualy build up over a few days now too.

Quick giggle for you all by the way - on the way to work this morning I moved awkwardly in the car and felt something go "ping" - thought at first that maybe the zip on my fleece had gone or something but no sign of anything so forgot about it - it was only when I got home from work tonight that I discovered the underwire in my bra had broken! Must have given way under the strain! Thankfully I had my Avon order here from Mum and that included two bras, one of which actually fitted! (36f - trust me, getting ANYTHING to fit that doesn't also cost half a weeks pay is a challenge!) :o:o:D

bones in bra's are such a pain aren't they. Literally when they break and stab into you for the whole day.
  • Ooh, I hadn't realised we were such a gloriously curvy lot on here! Admittedly, from a personal point of view I sometimes wish there were a few LESS curves! GG - I'm deeply jealous of you having a Freya factory shop nearby - I usually buy mine in debenhams when they are reduced to about 70% off - which does somewhat limit the choice! The avon one I had on today was a broadly similar shape to most of my Freya ones.

Ooh - I have a thrifty recipe to share - not cooked it myself yet but it was in a Good Food magazine supplement I got given at the food show......it immediately hit me as sounding delicious!

    Cold Weather hot-pot
    (Serves 5 - 6)

    2 Onions
    300g carrots
    1kg Potatoes
450g minced beef (add soya mince / lentils / oats etc as required for MSE purposes!)
    2 beef stock cubes
    400g can baked beans
    splash worcestershire sauce
    handful of roughly chopped parsley

Cut each onion into 8 wedges, roughly chop the carrots and cut the potatoes into large chunks. Put the kettle on.
Heat a large non stick pan, add the mince and fry it quickly stirring all the time until evenly browned. Crumble in the stock cubes and mix well. Add the prepared vegetables, stir them around, then pour in 900ml hot water from the kettle. Bring to the boil.
Reduce the heat, cover and simmer for 25 - 30 minutes, until the veg are tender. Stir in the baked beans and a generous splash of worcestershire sauce and heat through. Taste & season if necessary.
    Serve scattered with chopped parsley.

I'll probably give it a try next week - I will report back afterwards but I did think it sounded lovely!
