  • LOL - well, in the long term it won't be a bad thing, and it's only the one month it will be a problem thank goodness! :rotfl:

Won another £20 on BB this evening - thank you SOOOO much all of you for giving me the nerve to give it a go!

I've got CC vouchers in but I'm determined to continue to use those as deals not spend on shopping - it also means that we can have "free" days out from time to time which is useful, plus reducing the cost on things like the Good Food Show, rugby matches etc which we would go to anyway......I have a £2 off voucher for Sainsbugs the week before christmas - and if OH goes back in at some stage for some more razorblades we'll get another one of those too, I also have some nectar points ready to redeem I think although probably only £2.50's worth, still, every little helps......oh no, wrong supermarket! :D Ordinary money off vouchers have rather lost their appeal since Tescos closed the loophole - I was never one for abusing them, but did always use whatever I'd got and the odd £1 off here and there did make a difference. I shouldn't need to top up my phone again before the New year anyway as long as the £6 credit from the phone recycle arrives alright - I've still got about £15 on there and that will last me for ages. Going PAYG was definitely a good thing - I'm saving a fortune. I've got a meal plan done for several weeks now too so food spend on other than basics will be minimal - the veg box turned up today full of lovely looking goodies so have to plan in use of those.

  • Wow EH that Make up a month challenge is a tough one. Very best of luck. We all know that you'll do it. I noticed that Martin is looking at doing an article about those money for old Gold adverts. My sis had broken gold jewellery and watches and got a couple of hundred quid from a local jewellers. Maybe worth routing around the jewellery box for broken or unmatched earrings and stuff. I bet you get a better rate at a local jewellers than one of those Gold companies. Happy to be proved wrong though.

EH you are very inspirational, keep up the good work.

Good luck with making up that month. It's amazing how much bingo can amount to
  • One of our local Boots stores had another christmas shopping evening tonight - as well as the 1200 points on a £50 spend I also had a voucher for an extra 500 points on top. Managed to get my Mum's birthday present plus some bits for her & my aunt for christmas, then topped up with a few bits of routine stuff for myself. Total spend was £50.50 which I was fairly impressed with the accuracy of! I must try to remember to use the points for necessary spends though or it will slightly defeat the point! :o

Good news on the Tesco credit card front - got the statement through earlier on and it turns out that the interest free period runs until 22nd Jan! :j That gives me another month where the money is sitting in my account earning interest!

I have started putting together our shopping list for next week - so far it's sitting at £8.49 but I might be able to know that down a bit yet, depending on what bargains we pick up at the Good Food Show on Sunday. I need to start filling in my grocery shopping budget speadsheet again so I shall start that from 1st December. I have little excuse for buying anything other than the basics for the next few weeks as both freezers have plenty in! OK then - add that to the challenge - eat sufficient from the freezer that freezer 2 can be completely emptied and turned off for a while! :rotfl:

MrEH has pointed out that he will hopefully get a christmas bonus of some description so some of that can go to our new challenge too - my lot donlt give bonuses sadly, meanies!

Got the letter from the BS today confirming our new savings account will be set up within the next few days - once that's live I'll be able to start dropping money into it! Oh the excitement of life on here eh?! :D

EH you've triggered me to do a storecupboard check/inventory. Good thing to do just before Christmas when the cupboards can be overstuffed with extra bits. I will do this and will tell myself I can't post on here again til its done!
