Tesco are disgusting for this - I too received the email cancelling my order - they should honour all orders - they can well afford to! Martin, can you do something about this please??
  • I sent Tesco a polite e-mail:

    "Dear Sir/Madam.

I must admit I'm very disappointed with your cancellation of my order. Even though you mis-priced this item, it would have been nice, if you as a matter of goodwill would have honoured the orders already placed.
    Kind regards, ***** ********"

I don't expect them to change their minds, but if we all let them know, this could have been handled better, perhaps they might just listen.

    Yeah, me too. Order cancelled.

Maybe i should contact my credit card company to reverse the payment of the impulse buy book i did when I was on the Tesco site buying the LP Spain book.

Just got this email from Tesco...

    Dear Customer,

Thank you for your recent book order for Spain ISBN: 9781741790009 from Tesco.com.
Unfortunately, there was an error in the price at the time that you placed your order, and as a result we have had to cancel the book in your order. You have not been charged for this book.
Please refer to our Terms and Conditions on the Tesco.com entertainment site for further details of our order acceptance policy.
If you would like to re-order the book, it will be available again this week on our website at the correct price £7.99.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
    Kind regards,
    Tesco Customer Service

Does anyone know if they can do this or if it's worth complaining?

    Thanks

They can do it, their terms and conditions will be watertight.
  • This is what I have sent to Tesco:

    "Hello.

I am very disappointed that you have cancelled this order. I recognised that this was an exceptional price for the book, but I assumed that this was a 'loss-leader' in order to drive extra traffic to your online store. This product was highlighted on the hugely popular 'Money Saving Expert' weekly email and cancelling all the orders seems like a massive shot in the foot. I personally will be thinking twice about using your online service - and I am sure I will not be alone in that view."

I recommend lots of other people responding similarly so they get to know that I'm not the only one irritated by their actions.

I don't think we'll persuade Tesco to change their minds, unfortunately.

  • Besides the Ts&Cs, one wonders whether it is worth Tesco alienating a slew of its customers for the sake of £5.50? £5.50 which they won't be getting from any of the customers who received the cancellation email I would wager. Still, knowing Tesco, they would have probably forced Lonely Planet to cover the order at that price rather than taking the hit themselves, then kicked a granny out of her home as a celebration at another job well done.

I suspect they had too many orders and the loss per order wasn't absorbable.

Got the same email as everyone else - they're within their rights, i'm afraid, as there is no legally binding contract until they take your money.
