I use to earn $650 a month from Adsense. Its now down to $250 after Google changed their algo. But the answer is hell yes you can make thousands while you sleep! But it takes a lot of work initially and you may fail a few times before you succeed just like anything else.

Ernster-could you recommend any sites that give good advice/tips for a new blogger?

My blog is going to be adult orientated and blogger doesn't allow the monetisation of these sort of blogs(I think their just referring to using AdSense) so I'm looking to use affiliates.

Can anyone recommend affiliates or ad's that I can use on this type of site to make some money and drive traffic?

    Thank you.

$650 per month?? Hmm maybe I should find out what blogging actually is. Never had any interest in it until I read this thread.

Sigh, don't be fooled, it takes years of hard work to make anywhere near that figure.
  • The money I make from ad revenue and free samples etc is nowhere near $650.....

it's taken me 4 years to make £60!!

I've hit a niche that is showing results but very slowly.

Also, an affiliate program like AW is good to run alongside something like AdSense
  • I've had quite a few years of experience blogging about my personal life and have ALWAYS been interested in monetizing, but I never got round to it and I'm not sure where to start! I know people who's sole income is from their blogging about the things they love and for me this would be very rewarding.

These are some paid blogging services I have heard about but I'm not sure if they are US only:

Does anybody know/use any other pay per post sites?

Is it even really possible to make serious cash? I know a few adverts can generate pennys but does anyone actually ever click them? I know i dont.
Yes, they do. I earn £30+ a month from Google ads alone and I they aren't in your face like some of the sites I visit. There are just a few discreet links on each page. I also earn a fair bit from being an ebay affiliate and through working with Webgains. I have a niche website that I thoroughly enjoy, plus a popular forum (no ads at all on this). My earnings vary from about £100 a month to £250.
    Don't mess with pensioners.
  • Blogging is a great secondary income but to make any decent money you need to be an authority site in your niche. This involves 5000+ informative & unique articles.

    Good luck everyone!

Just found the start of a really helpful series from The Guardian about how to build a successful blog. Hope this helps:
