Well Im doing ok budget wise and also using up left overs which i would normally just throw away.

Hubs keeps popping into Mr T's on his way home though just to pick up a 'couple of things'

I made lasagna today for the freezer and thought i would have too much mince so i started to boil veg to turn the left over mince into cottage pie only to realise i didnt have enough in the end  But Im making soup with the veg so all is not lost.

This is an excellent way to keep track of the pennies

Just a heads up....I checked mysupermarket.co for prices & special offers as we made plans to visit our closest MrA, 45mins drive each way for us:eek:
Anyhoo, the site definately said there was an offer on Shredded Wheat ending 12/5/09, but there was nothing to advertise it in store so I asked. Basically, the store can change its offers whenever it pleases & it is up to mysupermarket.co to update it's site.
To be fair, the assistant helping me did say that it would help if I had had a PRINTED copy of the offers I had seen, so next time I'm going tooled up
Just thought I'd pass on the info.....

  • Trying to stretch things out a bit, as ordered shopping online just over £100 for tuesday, but worked out enough meals to last till 15th June. She says! Inlaws (read outlaws:eek:) coming down for a holiday the week before. So may have to do some eating out. (can't see them crowding around our dining room table). Thought I had it all sussed, as need couple of meals for the weekend, so brainwave order early for friday/saturday. Then I realised I would get no free delivery, thus defeating the money saving idea. Hey! Ho!:rotfl:

Been to Morrisons today for a top up shop which I am hoping I can make last till my delivery next Monday....I seemed to get loads for just over £17 so it goes to show me that even though I thought I had been quite good on the whole, unless I am doing this challenge I am nowhere near as disciplined with my spending.....tea today was a turkey breast roast with med veg (using the bargain courgettes and toms from the aldi super 6) peppers, onions and baby pots which went down a treat.....kids had pasta but didn't really eat much -I hate it when I have to throw good food away..the twins are really hit and miss with food at the moment, one day they will wolf something down, the next say its horrible  anyway at least ds ate all his leftover chicken tikka pies from dh's work!

Tomorrow am going go make a curry as I have about 5 diff jars of curry sauce in the cupboard stocked up....I like to use a jar but then jazz it up with loads of veg like peppers and I also like to 'tikka' the chicken first - yum...will just have to resist popping out for bits to go with it!

Re the freezing of musrooms (this is probably just me) but I never freeze them now unless they have been cooked already -like in a pasta sauce/bolognese etc. I find the have a funny consistency if added to food if they have been frozen from fresh....

In case anyone is interested..in my Morrisons today I got a bottle of persil non bio liquid for £2.10 (think it is half price) it says only 2 per customer so it must be a good deal!!!!

    Just a quick update.
I planned to go to Mr. T for celery BOGOF, but ended up with spending £2.39 on 15x plums £1.20, 6x FR eggs 41p.

Now I have 8 eggs, all whoopsed. I am thinking about boil and bring them to office for lunch. Anyone know how how to re-heat an egg with the microwave??

I decided to make this a separate post so it doesnt get lost amongst my whittering!!

Just looking at the recipe list on the first page and the 'main meals' bit is getting big and cumbersome. If I moved 'soups' out to their own section it might help? What do you all think? I don't want to make the list overly complicated. Please let me know what you would prefer ;)

    Sounds good to me :D

I wouldn't want to! Wouldn't they go all rubbery?
Why not cold hard boiled eggs (with a salad, or in a sandwich...)

I would boil the egg the night before, while cooking rice. Then I have to take it to the office. No fridge on the bus. Then eat in the afternoon. That is some 18 hours. Doesn't seem to be very safe.

If there is no good solution I can find other ways to eat them. Don't worry.
