High Bill - Where Do I Stand?

The labour government cant afford anything any more other than MP's second, third and fourth homes and some home entertainment.
Anyway I was being sarcastic with the "ludicrous" remark initially (sorry) - or at least trying to point out the obvious.
Oh no, but as usual it'll not be the government that'll pay for it! It'll all be passed onto the private companies, like all their other hair-brained ideas! So prices'll go up again...:eek:Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
Check the call logs on the phone, see if there is any sign there.
Also, why did she talk for over an hour on her mobile in san fransisco?
You can get a phone card for about £5!0 -
Is she sure she didn't make the call? Would seem strange when it's too her parents landline number.
Yes, moneygrabber, we were in San Franciso at the time, although from the time that they have given that the call was made (11 o'clock) it seems it was either 3am in the morning (when we would have been fasto!) or 3pm on the day we were flying home (which was a few hours after take off). They said 11:xx was the time of the call, but she didn't think to ask them if it was am or pm.
Yes she did make a separate call on another day, for which she also got billed, that was only for 3-4 mins long, but a 2nd call that was not made also seems to have shown up on their system.
Either a quirk in their system or somehow something happened with the phone, like being sat on or whatever. However, the phone was hardly used and not taken out and about every day, it was locked in the hotel safe most of the time.0 -

Neither of the 2 calls are in the mobile's Outgoing Calls...
And as for your other question, I don't think you have read the thread properly...0 -

A company of this size will have thousands of servers, ample space to store millions of wav files
Anyhow it's futile debating this point.
Implementing IVR for your customers, and voice recording for customer services would be a multi million pound project for a national teleco. I dread to think how much voice recoridng would be for every customer but yes it could be one. Just too expensive for a teleco, its not like they are going to make money from it unless the government fund them0 -

She just got a bill today for over £100. When she rang Vodafone to query it, they said there is a call of over an hour made from San Franciso to a landline (her parents number), which cost £88. She did make another call of 2-3 minutes which cost a few quid, but we have no idea where this call came from.
They said as a gesture of goodwill, they will reduce the bill by £30, as her normal usage suggests this is not a normal occurrence.
Now, if it was me I would be cancelling the Direct Debit and telling them where they can stick their phone, but she is a bit worried about doing something like that as it could affect her credit rating. Plus she is a bit nicer than me
Obviously, we cannot rule out the possibility that somehow the phone made a connection - keys not being locked and subsequently leant on or whatever.
What can we do? I said to her that we will write a letter stressing that we have not made this call. She did ask them on the phone if they could listen to the call, but they said they don't keep them stored. They said that even if it went to a mailbox then she is still iable for the connection and therefore must pay.
Anyone experience something similar?
Make sure you pay it, as someone else said they or a debt collection agency will come after you.
Be glad they gave you money off.
If you look at all the posts on this forum for when someone has lost their phone, and someone made calls coming to a few figures, they all had to pay. The fact it was one call, and still under your ownership makes no diff. Just be glad it didn't go over a hundred.0 -
Perhaps query it a bit more, I'm on a similar deal (the £20 sim only one) and they've always been really great with me.0

While not totally impartial, but did the family member involved ever receive a call at the time in question? If not, tell that to them. If you really believe that the call wasn't made, it's worth fighting them for it.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0

They cant play back your call. It would be illegal to record it routinely.
Oh and before you refer back to your call centre experiences, I used to work in a call centre and my job was to monitor and playback recorded calls. Call centre recording is legal, as long as you are made aware of it, but that is some what different to Vodafone recording all your voice calls.
Sorry to have to say it, the money is owed and should be paid. I know its a pain, but even when phones are on lock, they can easily come off of lock in a pocket or bag. I made 22 calls to my home in an hour once even though my phone was off in my pocket when I started my journey.
As earlier posters have said, Vodaphone will pass it to a collections agency to recover the debt if it isn't paid. They will also disconnect and charge a disconnection fee. Cancelling a direct debit in anger often causes problems later!0 -
It sounds to me like it was a call received FROM the parents landline to the mobile. You are charged for receiving calls when abroad
Oh and the networks can't record your calls. They have no facility to do so, and if they did, it would be a breach of the Data Protection Act0
