I am looking to go to Orlando/Sanford on a specific date in September and use to the exceedingly cheap TravelCityDirect, but alas there were soo cheap they went bust

Any thoughts on the best way to get the cheapest fares? I have scoured loads of sites on the internet but am interested in tips like Virgin usually reduce in July etc. I also know that the Charter fares get reduced nearer the departure date, whereas [some] scheduled flights actually increase, but that is a gamble in not getting a seat if you leave it until a week before! I dont mind gambling, but the odds must be reasonable!

This will be the 9th time there and the 'system' I use to use has all gone now and this year I have had to use a different Villa, different Flights/Company and even the Airport Car man has retired now! I would really benefit from sombody elses experience, particularly if they are regulars.

    Many thanks in advance.
  • is anyone going on the 2nd may from gatwick??

You must remember that charter flights carry airport supplements - outside of
London - along with other supplements...I still swear by regular flights on scheduled airlines, plus of course they fly to Orlando it's self rather than faraway Sanford.

I found a £281 return fare for the middle of September from LGW..involves a change in Atlanta.. but saving some £150 on the direct flight. https://www.kayak.com

Thanks. I dont actually mind Sanford and would actually prefer it because it is quiet and an easy start to driving on the right when you leave the airport.

Yes, I have looked at that fare and have it in my collection of alternatives, it's not bad, but I've 2 kids to take too and not sure about the changes. I know you can clear customs and immigration in that time and then when you get to MCO you can just collect your luggage and go, thus saving time at the other end too. The changes are quite tight to do the change though, which is a good thing if timings work out, but bad if you get delayed, although there are plenty of later flights too, but not on the return.

Good luck anyway.. Some friends actually booked Atlanta and drove down
to FL from there.. More of a touring holiday really with stops here and there.

  • Managed to get 4 return flights £918 (inc extras - luggage & sitting together) for 7 nights leaving 15 May from Gatwick. Thanks so much for the tip-off!
  • Hi y`all. Just returned from US of A, and laboriously applied for ESTA`s well before departure- only to be told it isnt necessary as is not yet mandatory- probably because so few have done it. We still had to complete the "green" immigration cards and they did not want to see our printed ESTAs. On plus side our ESTAs run to 2011 so once is working, no future registration required, as it covers all trips to expiry date.
