    Evening peeps! :D

Still managing to refrain from counting my jar of coins, although I can see some shiny fifties in there begging to be spent! lol But I shall be strong, it's all for a better cause.

On a VERY un-DFW note, I enrolled on my AAT course today. Sooo much money and very scary indeed. But I just keep thinking "grand plan, grand plan, grand plan" lol.

I hope everyone who's been down or poorly of late is feeling a bit better xxx

    Finally a Homeowner 04.10.13 :j

  • Hi all!

First time poster here on the MSE forum and you lot have inspired me to join your loose change challenge!

I save all my copper and 5ps in a little jar anyway, but spurred on by you guys I've decided I'm gonna get a bigger jar and aim to save up £100 in it to start reducing my £600 overdraft. (Have a loan of just under £5k as well, but won't save anything paying that off early so tackling the overdraft first to reduce the interest every month and then get rid of it completely.) I might even start putting all my change smaller than 50p in it if I'm feeling really good...

Counted up my pot tonight and I'm starting with £8.07 - will try saving silver as well this week and see how much I've got on Friday. £100 will take a while but I'll get there!

Well done to everyone else for their efforts so far - and especially to all the ladies trying to lose a lot of weight, I know just how you all feel, I've been there myself! Used to weigh 20 stone now 12 1/2 stone, would love to tell you there's a magic solution but there isn't, I did Atkins/low carb for a while and lost about 3 stone but the diet was too restrictive for me and it made me obssessive.

The rest I lost through moderation in all things, and that's what I do now to keep it off (starting losing weight in 2002) - I don't deny myself anything but I try to eat less of the bad stuff and replace it with stuff that's better for me. Keep it simple - you need to make a change for life and if it's too much effort and stress it just won't work in the long term. Same goes for exercising - choose something you enjoy (or hate least!) that you'll actually do regularly and stick with it. It's amazing what a huge difference a small change can make when carried out over a long time. Hopefully that's what I'll learn doing this challenge with my small change in the money sense!

Forgive the long post, I'll be much briefer in future! xxx

snap!! i want to do this course aswel :D i went for an assessment day the other day so they can figure out what level im at. Are you doing this at a private place like an professional accounting school or just a normal college? cheapo me going to the local college, i dont want to go into a classroom full of professionals who are way more advanced than me. good luck with your course, i think mine doesnt start until sept, have been putting this off for ages. im 26 this year  feels like time just flying by and i havent done anything for myself. I want to buy a house in the future and so want to eventually save for a deposit but if i dont increase my salary then i wont be able to get a big mortgage and that will mean i need to save twice or three times a normal deposit. So while im saving i want to try and up my qualifications to get more money .

Rosepink and lesley hope you are both feeling alot better. What is your plan for today rosepink? i am curious what your routine you have given yourself? i always think about my days off and think i should do this and that but am always too lazy to do anything lol and end up spending most of the time infront of the tv :o not good.

Awww lesley, i have a friend who is sort of in a similar place like you, doesnt like leaving her house. hope you feel better soon. are you not back in work yet?

Hugs Lesley, I suffer from agoraphobia so I know the feeling of hating being outside and only feeling safe inside. I’m not saying that you have that, just that I understand the feeling. I think it’s quite common to feel that way when depressed

Kate, you can count the money if you like, unless counting it would make you want to spend it! Well done on enrolling on the course, what is it for?

Welcome Venus, how nice to have you joining in and we are very honoured to have your very first post on our thread! As you said so well, making a small change over a long time can make a big difference and I’m sure that by saving up your change you will soon have that horrible overdraft paid off. Well done with the weight loss, 8 ½ stone is a lot! WTG!

Glad to hear you are making plans Focus so that you can reach your goals. That’s really good.
I can understand about wanting to relax on your days off. I’m like that too, except that every day is a day off now, so I need to make sure that I don’t spend every day slumped in front of the TV! I’ve got plans to increase my voluntary work, keep my house nice, and visit some of the elderly ones in my congregation, so writing a list for each day with what I need to do really helps me to focus. If I don’t write it down, I just forget everything as my memory is awful, and then I don’t get anything done!
Today I had to be a bit more organized and put times besides various tasks as I have to go into the village to the library chemist etc, drop things off at a friends and then do my voluntary work at 12:30, so I needed to work out when to leave and how long I had to do things.
Speaking of my schedule, time to get dressed and go sort the car out – it’s a tip!

Lesley, have they amended their records now, so that you won't get a bad report for being awol? They should change them so it shows you were off sick. Big hugs for you, it's another stress you don't need

Thanks Rosepink, I would count it, but like you said, it will make me want to spend it! It will also create a nice surprise on July 1st, and I do so love sitting cross legged on the floor counting the pennies!! I just found 30p in my pen-pot at work, oooh!! That's going in the tin tonight, heheh :rotfl:

The course I've enrolled on is the AAT, which is an accountancy qualification, and will hopefully enable me to get a new job as, like Focus, I want a lovely little house some day and my meagre salary just won't cut it with the mortgage folks.

I hope you're enjoying your new found freedom, and Lesley I hope you feel better soon xxx
