Yep, I asked for them to be reduced to £2000 last august to boost my ability to get a mortgage. Looking at the last year list, I had over 150% of my salary available to me!
I closed my NatWest card in may and then reapplied in november, so that accounts for the slight change.0 -
Just applied for a Egg Money card after reading details on here. Its not yet arrived. The credit limit is £1,200
Apart from that a Debenhams Store card which hardly ever used and its doubtfull if I will do now, so I'll cancel that one.0 -

No its a good idea to have limit as low as poss if you're keeping a card open but looking to apply elsewhere. My Morgan Stanley card is now past the double cashback deal, which I did max out, but I cant close it until my anniversary date else I lose the cashback, so I have reduced the CL to the lowest poss they offer, i.e. £500, and the card will just sit there until October then be closed, unless they want to do me a 0% BT offer to stooze on!0 -
eagle wrote:I have three. Is there any point in applying for a fourth, just because it's with a company/organisation that I like, even though I intend to just not use it ever (well, maybe once or twice)? It's a Visa through MBNA and has a 0% offer or something, which is also useless to me.
So the point would be...? Let me guess, it comes with a cute picture of a puppy on it0 -

Same here, I treat mine as a debit card, apart from the stoozing ones of course! Hope you're getting cashback on yours.0 -
I have four [and I love them all]:
1. Bank of Ireland
Limit £2400; Balance £0
Keeping this one for emergencies. It doesn't show up on any UK credit reports and so doesn't affect my rating! I got the card with my current account in [Republic of] Ireland. When I moved to the UK, I got my bank to change it into a Sterling card.
2. HSBC
Limit £4500; Balance £0
Keeping this cos I like the limit!
3. Capital One
Limit £1500; Balance £0
Intending to close this one as they have hiked up their interest rates by around 4%.
4. Egg Money
Limit £2500; Balance +£250
Currently use this card for all spending. Well if they want to pay me cashback...

Amex Platinum - £8000 CL - Paid Off Monthly (Use for Cash back)
Amex Blue - £2000 CL - Never Use since I got Amex Plat
I have 2 - AMEX blue, plan to go Platinum after account anniversary, and a universally accepted VISA card.
Merlin - you say you don't use your BLUE card anymore, but I thought if you spent less than £1000 in a year, they charged you an admin fee of £15 or something??
Also, as you are in a similar position, can I ask how you got your limit quadrupled from the Blue to the Platinum?
I had the Blue upped from 2K to 3K, but that was a struggle, 8K or so would be far more useful, as once ayear myself and my OH have to buy around 6K's worth of Train tickets
Would be interested to know if you automatically get a higher limit for the Platinum, if you had to ak for it, or if it was due a to a new job/salary.
PM me if you'd rather.
Thanks

I just have one, a Lloyds Golf Mastercard with nothing on it (credit limit: £6K). I don't really use it that much - mainly for buying pills for my IBS (from New Zealand).
At one time I had four: Sony Card, Egg, Marbles and Lloyds. Too many cards, too much credit (around £15K I think) available. I cut up the Sony, Egg and Marbles ones and stuck them through the shredder.0 -
Just the one - a Capital One Mastercard, £400 limit.
It's plenty and I pay it all off most months, never more than two months.
I don't spend what I haven't got, and that's just fine.
Once upon a time - A Barclaycard (£6,800) and an American Express Card (£3,500)
Dark days, gone forever
