I have 4! but only 2 of them have a balance on them - the other 2 I have not used for years, I suppose I should cancel them?

    I have 4 and I don't think that's too many (although I wouldn't want too many more).

I think it's quite reasonable to have 4 as some people need different cards for business expenses etc.

    I have
1 for my normal spending (Egg money for max cashback)
1 Nationwide that I used for overseas
    and 2 for stoozing

I would prefer to have less but can't close any down until the stooze periods are up.

I have two that I use for day to day spending (one is always kept as a back-up in case something is wrong with the other one) and an extra card that I use for ALL my on-line shopping. It doesn't offer any special deals for on-line shopping but I took that view that if anything ever went wrong then there's only one card at risk.

I have 6 Cards always pay off in full unless 0% and then money transfered to BS

Amex Platinum - £8000 CL - Paid Off Monthly (Use for Cash back)
Amex Blue - £2000 CL - Never Use since I got Amex Plat
Tesco Platinum - £5000 CL - Paid Off Monthly - Wife collects Air Miles (14000 odd)
Halifax Platinum - £12500 CL - Rarely Used
Nat West Platinum - £10000 CL - Rarely used
Shell Visa - £6200 CL _ Use for at Shell or other partners for Plus Points ( Air Miles)
Did Have an RBS Card 15000 CL - Cancelled 6 months ago before I applied for Tesco Card

Wife also has a Halifax one Card - £3000 CL, Balance £3000 0% until September 06 Money in BS.

Never tempted to spend on what I don't have or want. Been in heavy debt before, aint going back there again. I should reduce the cards as Household income is now £9000 less.

Bought a £8000 Motorbike on the RBS one last year, but knew I had the money coming in 3 weeks later. Was Miffed that the dealer would not take Amex. £160 cash back lost.

I currently have 6 + Amex Traveller cheque card for loading abroad,my wife has two.All at 0% for stoozing except Texaco at 3.9%
Did have 10 and wife had three but slimmed it down a bit this year .

It isn't how many you have have got it is what you use them for and how you use them this is what gives you flexibility.
If you have 4 cards fully loaded but still have debts and required more cards you will find that you will be turned down.If you are paying off the balances and then requesting a new card you should be ssuccessful with your application.

oh good. I'm debt free on 2 of them, semi-stoozing on one and the other is my spending one, which i pay off every month.... Guess i should get rid of the nat west ones unless they give me a 0% balance transfer with no BT fee :)

    sounds okay,
just try and use them for what you want rather than the companies using you.Keep a eye open for BT charges on any new cards you apply for.

Just try and remain calm about it.
If you get upset about it they have won and you will loose any 0% offer.
If nothing is offered you can tell them you are closing the account anyway and perhaps apply for another card later.
