Hermes doesn't offer Next Day Delivery, their system can't cope with it unless it's an order through NEXT.

Hermes have been using HHTs for 18 months or more now.

When you're ordering from a company (not C2C) then the Hermes service, like your HDNL one will be as good as the courier in your area. You obviously have a good HDNL one. I have an excellent Hermes courier who has never let me down. I have never had an order arrive more than 3 days after ordering. It's swings and roundabouts with ALL courier firms who use 3rd parties.

As for your DPD person asking that, I presume he loses his bonus if he can't mark it as delivered before 12pm. I had RM do that to me once - when I checked the tracking it said delivered and I hadn't received it. I spent the next 3 hours trying to work out where my item had been delivered and RM were as much help as a chocolate bra. My item eventually turned up later that day - I was not best pleased as I'd wasted so much time panicking that an important car part which I needed to get my car back on the road (I was a courier at the time!) had gone missing. At least your DPD guy did call you I suppose...it's still not supposed to be done though.

    slightly different on RM
its a throw back on the tracking system from the 2 delivery days
if staff dont return to the office then the item has to be blind confirmed
under the 2 delivery system all staff were back from the 1st delivery

...On the 17th December my husband took delivery of of one of the items from the order. The delivery driver practically threw the item at him and told him no need to sign for it! Before my husband had time to question this the driver was of down the garden path and driving off in his van.
...as it had not been signed for how could they know that this had been delivered!
The Toys R Us rep agreed with me that there is something fishy going on, and he is esculating the issue higher up the chain.

There's nothing fishy going on. TRU don't as far as I know want to have a "signed for" option as it means delivery costs more.
The reason the courier said that a sig wasn't necessary was for this reason (and the fact he was probably rushed off his feet with the Xmas rush and didn't want to hang about - more online orders this year than any other year were they quoting on the news???)

The courier will have marked the item as delivered on the HHT.
If he doesn't, he doesn't get paid, so it's in his interest to mark the delivery as completed. Hermes are one of the couriers who offer the safe place/no need for sig option (unlike other couriers) as it suits many customers who can't be in to sign. Thousands of parcels a day are delivered to a safe place with no problem - despite your concerns.

I don't think it was that.
My item should have been delivered before 1pm - I'd paid for the service. It was delivered after this time, so I suppose the postie confirmed delivery to stay within targets.
Very misleading though...nothing should have been confirmed either way until the item had been taken back to SO.
My usual postie always delivered before 11.30am so when the item showed delivered at that time, I really thought it had gone to the wrong address.
Turned out I had a cover postie on too!

If a little bit of snow and Christmas (which lets not forget happens at the same time every year) can bring deliveries to a near standstill (3 weeks to move a parcel about 80 miles and then 'lose' it) then the whole operation is poorly devised, managed and executed.

The thing is I've had other parcels delivered from Hermes at other times of the year when these conditions don't exist and they are far the slowest.

    I agree they are slow.
But then again, delivery costs are cheaper.
As for the snow, we have had the worst snow in many areas since 1947. It's not the usual "little bit of snow". If I'd still been doing my couriering, I'd have been unable to deliver now in many parts of my round area for 8 days.
When I was a courier, I lost one day to snow - when we had "normal" snowy conditions in my area - per year. The schools were closed for longer.

the postie doesnt confirm the delivery
that would have been done by indoor staff
    as i said 'blind' confirmation
    unless they are using PDAs

Tomorrow is technically a bank holiday and so no, the couriers shouldn't be working. Having said that, many couriers work under the fear of having work withdrawn for not jumping when the Field Managers say "jump"...so there might be some deliveries.

Ah right, completely forgot about it being bank holiday! I checked this morning the parcel status had updated again, with it being processed and then out for delivery to courier at 5am this morning. Fingers crossed they actually get it to the courier this time! It rained here so there's no ice or anything.

we delivered 12 parcels today and i'd just like to say we had a choice - we didn't have to (we were told we could wait till tomorrow) but we did it as luckily for us we have some very lovely customers on our round!
  • ^^ Note the name of the depot is PRECEDED by its phone number :)
