Spoke to my bank today(natwest) and they DO take working/child tax into account and also child benefit

I can't believe what I'm reading here. Unbelievable. Ever likely the banks are screwed and in turn so is the taxpayer when they are doing things like this.

Just as a pragmatic point with regard to the bank's behaviour- this actually seems like sensible and safe lending to me...

The OP has a very solid, stable source of income, which is a lot more than can be said for many who are, and will still continue to be approved for mortgage finance. The 'tightening-up' that most banks refer to is really a restriction on LTV which is available (possibly so they are buffered from negative equity).

This is not a judgment as to whether this is the right or wrong attitude (I know what I think- best of luck Emma!)

I did do a lengthy and very involved post....but then chickened out!

Shortened version is - Eeeekkk you sure you want to take something on like that in these uncertain times?
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I did read the post thank you!
I just don't think you can justify £25k per year benefits..
My cousin a disabled and my Auntie wont claim, in her words "I didn't have children for financial gain".
    Capital One - £230.46 / £70 (Nearly there)
    GE Money - £211.30 / £0 (There!)

If these children were in 24hr care from social services/ NHS you can bet your bottom dollar the cost would be SIGNIFICANTLY more than £25k. It's actually difficult to comprehend how much it costs to have staff available at 4am this coming bank holiday Monday morning!

Perhaps it would be easier for you to comprehend if you thought of the government employing parents to look after their very disabled children, instead of having to employ others to do it for them. The reason why the arrangement is made through benefits is because we wouldn't want to advertise these jobs to all and sundry- it is better that parents are able to do it.

If you are going to complain about people who (legitimately and legally) claim DLA and carers allowances, then logically your argument must extend to any person who is paid in excess of £25k by the government to perform necessary work for them, such as:
    Doctors
    Nurses
    Paramedics
    Police
    Teachers

No wonder this country is fck'd!! You get £25K in benefits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your honesty. At least someone has the balls to say it. 25k in benefits!!! That's bloody ridiculous.

And to top it all off, you also have 30k in savings for a deposit!!! !!!!!!!!!

Just a reminder of the state that this country is in and before anyone tells me off for being horrible, I'm not, I'm being real!!!

I am sick of working, studying, paying all these taxes and NI conts and for what? To pay for others to have better lives than I do?

Too much cross subsidising goes on in this country.

And before anyone has a go, my niece is severely disabled.
She is 12, can't talk, can't walk, is in nappies, doesnt know who we are, is uncontrollable and is extremely violent (through frustration). Her mother's dad died and she was left with a bit of money and because of this she couldnt get any financial help.

I do apologise to the OP, I was just venting.

My partner and I have two kids and with both of us working earn probably slightly less than Emmalita.
Am I bitter? am I hell!
Emmalita deserves every penny, coping with two disabled kids must be exhausting.
I'm the first to complain about benefit scroungers but I really can't comprehend some of the bitterness on this thread.

    Good luck Emmalita.
