I really cant believe what I have just read on here. Somebody asks an innocent question about mortgages and the only response they get is a rant about the benefits system!!
Emmalite, in answer to your question, most mortgage lenders take benefits into account these days. Your bigger problem is those late payments so get them sorted asap. Also speak to an independant mortgage broker as soon as possible.0 -
There are some really awful people here. OP is in private rental. Not very secure. We don't know where the money for the deposit came from: perhaps OP's parents died? I don't think she said she has lots of money left over. Given the current political and economic environment, perhaps looking for something more permanent isn't a bad idea.
Certainly, to be receiving DLA at those rates, the children are pretty seriously disabled (asthma and ezcema don't do it, sorry). My son with Down Syndrome, in nappies at 9 and unable to speak a 3 word sentence, needs constant supervision, not safe to leave him for 5 minutes, gets low rate mobility and middle rate care ... These kids have SERIOUS problems.
"Asthma and Eczema don't do it" Do you have any idea how many men, women and children die each year from Asthma and complications arising from????, I suggest you go and do your home work before making sweeping statements like that...........Im one of the lucky ones, I am almost clear and I am grateful.
I still stand by what I have posted on this thread and I can sleep easy at night with what I wrote.I challenge anyone to show me where, as Zelie said my post was full of "spitting vitriol" .
This site is here for debate and what I wrote I believe was relavent in suggesting the OP didn't buy a house for the reasons I gave..0 -
That post right there was spitting vitriol. As were most of your other ones. The fact that you can't see it indicates that you may be too used to making aggressive posts to be able to tell the difference between reasonable comment and spite. Hope this helps.

You're giving wrong information. Most lenders do not take benefits into account, especially if they are means tested benefits. As stated previously, Northern Rock were the one lender who granted mortages to people who mainly had income made up of benefits, but the crash of the banks has put an end to such lending. Banks now want to ensure that they lend more responibily these days & have tightened up their criteria. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Go and find out the meaning of the word "vitriol" Zelie... I had formed an opinion of you when you first spouted your true VITRIOL , your a TROLL zelie, nothing more and nothing less.
You have failed abysmally to back up your nasty comments accusing me of posting hatred and bitterness on this thread... Chewmylegoff posted what I would consider a good overal view, pretty similar to mine in fact, strange how you havent tried to discredit them too.
I won't bother to reply to more of your ranting, surfice as to say everyone has an opinion on the subject.
Ps I still wish the OP good luck.0 -

Zelie - either you are incredibly thin skinned/fragile or have no idea of the meaning of the word. Just because you do not agree with someone's views does not make them vitriolic.
Now... back on track please everyone

Targetted nastiness towards an individual based on one's personal perceptions of a group is compatible with the definition of vitriol. As I've said before, I have no problem with those who question how much is given out in benefits. I've no problem with those who decry the benefits system in general. And in fact, I too hold some of those beliefs. But as I've also said, THIS is not the thread to do it in and shouting down the OP because of one's beliefs is childish. She came here to get advice, not to be judged by anyone.
I'll also note that those shouting the loudest are thus far not brave enough to post an SOA so that they might be judged.
I'll say no more on this matter as it's clear that some are just using the thread as a place to vent their frustrations with life. If anyone is man or woman enough to admit their current ranting is wrong and start an appropriate thread in the appropriate board then I'll pop along and read it.

First, yes, I know that asthma kills and eczema is painful. But, as Zelie says, the tone of your posting doesn't help. It sounded more like a Na Na Ne Na Na sort of thing. Sorry if it was intended as a cri de coer.
OP, you're sweet but we don't qualify for more. He doesn't wake at night, he's not on medication and he can walk. Poo doesn't really count, it seems. Also, tbh, we don't particularly need the money, I feel a bit embarrassed at the £250 a month we get when others are struggling. Yes, he costs more, but we earn quite a lot too, and we're certainly able to both work full time (or rather, me more than full time and OH a bit less). I'm a bit of an old fashioned lefty, and feel like means tested benefits are better than DLA that doesn't take real need into account. That's why I don't ask for direct payments. We pay for any babysitters ourselves. And it's also why I get annoyed when people think you should bow and scrape for every scrap of help you receive. We're a society not a collection of individuals.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000 -
