I tried to do this by setting a limit and then my phone was ment to be cut off but it never worked i was still able to go over and the charges were a lot more than should be as it was out of my 'bundle' i think payg is the best! Im currently on o2 and i get 13000 free texts a month and 1000 free o2 mins and other various suprises when i top up. Its a lot better then a contract!0

XxStephxX bet me to it but I was going to recommended o2 payg, with unlimted texts, I believe the other payg providers only offer roughly 3000 texts
another option is virgin payg £20 for unlimted texts and free wap or vodafone now offer packs with free mins/texts
I can't get urls atm sorry as at work0 -
I really fail to understand why anyone, teenager or otherwise, would need to spend £40 a month on a mobile.
That’s more than my bill from BT for three months.
We’re on Unlimited Evenings & Weekends tariff
On a weekday I use 18185 where I can ring any landline and chat for an hour for 5p.
I have a T Mobile PAYG, which I use only when I need to, such as to arrange to be picked up etc.
I topped up £20 the week before Christmas and I still have £17.35 left of it.0 -
On T-mobile, you can get Solo Fixed - the 30 day rolling plan, no phone, but fixed. £20 for 600 mins and unlinited texts, save the extra £20 a month towards a nice basic phone~*Cerenia*~

Most companies allow you to set a limit on monthly contracts If you go over your allowance + your limit then service will be limited. O2 certainly do and it works for me and mine
There are 2 problems
1) if you go over your text limit then you cannot use your call minutes
2) most seriously there is a delay in billing charges esp if used abroad and it is certainly possible to have huge charges in the pipeline
Those who cannot envisage spending £40 a month do not have teenage daughters !
Oh and make sure that int dialling and calling from abroad is turned offTANSTAAFL !0 -

I do have grandsons, with one about to become a teenager. Three of them have mobile phones, only to be used when really necessary. Mainly they have them so their parents can keep a check on them and be able to tell them it's time to come home.
Their usage is less than mine.
My youngest grandchild is a girl, so we'll see what happens when she becomes a teenager.0 -
ASDA PAYG.......................4P text
......................................8P minToday, my BEST is good enough.0 -
Surely they can 'chat' on a landline for 5p an hour.

My children 14 and 16 very rarely use the land-line. DD has £25 3 mobile unlimited texts (which is limited to 4000) and 600 mins for £25 a months. So far she has not exceeded this.
DS has 300 anyway from 3 mobile £10 per month usually uses it all
Both contracts will allow them to continue using phone after inclusive minutes have been used0 -

Sorry, I still don't get it...you pay £35.00 a month just for their phone calls. When they could 'chat' for no cost evenings and weekends just the BT Landline rental to pay. (I presume you pay a landline cost anyway)
Plus 'chat' for 5p an hour from 6pm to 6am Monday to Friday.0 -
EVERY network allows you to set a credit limit on your account - I am 100% positive O2 and 3 do let you do this on contract, as I have contracts with them . HOWEVER you can't use them as spending limiting per se with O2 as it takes a few days for it to update, so if you used £10 today then it would be updated in 48 hours.0
