Well you are missing my point then!
You couldn't find dates in February, it took me about 10 seconds. You wouldn't find an website that tells you you can get the cheapest if for example, you fly back on a certain date, and have 1 night in Singapore. Or, for example, that in the time since I looked, there is only 1 seat left from Singapore - Auckland left (there were 3), but Christchurch is wide open.
When I say Travel Agent, I mean someone like Trailfinders or Travelbag etc etc. They have access to a live system that tells them at any point how many seats are left at the cheapest price on a particular route. They can check availability before you've even entered your url. It's entirely up to you. If a reputable agent tells you there are seats remaining, they can put your names to them for a day or two without you having to commit yourself.
It's entirely up to you how and when you book, but unfortunately your option might not be the best, but if its' the only method your trust, c'est la vie.
P.S I'm not a travel agent!
OK, I phoned trailfinders and they said there was nothing available currently. But they have had prices from £410 to Auckland in January and £380 before November and it might be worth me calling back later this afternoon to see if they have any. The prices they've had aren't quite as low as advertised here but are still very good. So they were of some use, but maybe I would have achieved as much spending the time looking online instead, who knows?0 -
Just booked to Melbourne 31 Jan £404. Must still be seats available. Fantastic.0

I booked Christchurch NZ online for February for £371 around 3pm this afternoon. Calling Trailfinders didn't really help apart from giving me confidence that the flights were available.0

I found one of the biggest problems is that if the dates you want are not available you have to start all over again, I had about 4 windows open trying to compare them all.
Also for my flight- to get the cheapest deal I have to stay in singapore for about 15 hours (overnight) so will find somewhere overnight - this is not a 'stopover' rather a very long transit. Won't cost me anything extra will it??0 -
Heard about these flights on sunday and within 4 hours me and the other half were booked to Hong Kong next march, on the days we selected there was availability on all flights so the stop overs in Singapore are fairly short. We used netflights.co.uk and found them for £284 each return, so spare change from £600 for us both... Can't wait now!0

Hi, new to these long flights, thinking of Sydney. Cheaper flights mostly have overnight waits at Singapore. When you land Singapore at midnight what are the options when leaving at 9AM? Hardly time for a B&B?
Dearer flights have a daytime gap of say 7 hours, are suitcases automatically transferred so you can get a taxi and explore awhile?0 -
Hi everyone,
Cheap flights from Singaphore Airlines, its a con! this morning i done a search from info gained from MSE.com for the cheap flights advertised via Singapore airlines stating 329GBP for London to Bangkok single return and chose a random date from 24/07/09 - 24/08/09 and got a price of only "£978.70" single return!!. its a bit different from £329 advertised! i don't know how they are allowed to get away with trying to mislead the public in such a way?

"The deal's on flights departing from London Heathrow between 1 September to 09 December 09 and 16 January to 31 March 2010."
you may want to try a date in the range of those to which the offer applies before saying its a con, many people, myself included have got extraordinary deals with SQ in the last few days .0 -

I'm speechless! But thanks for putting the 'its a con' bit in bold just to emphasis a few old cliches.
Someone mentioned that the Singapore Airlines flights could actually be the cheapest ever flights to Australia / New Zealand, and I couldn't disagree (that is revenue flights available to the public, not airmiles or staff fares). I had to agree, but would be intrigued if anyone ever remembers flying cheaper?0 -
I was very excited to see this deal but all the dates I put in charge £398 to Brisbane but nearly £400 in taxes and airline surcharges.Am I doing something wrong? Or have I missed the boat?0
