Well he insists that they can but I'm sure it'll be a big struggle, especially for the brothers. I just think what would I do if it was someone inviting me to a foreign wedding and I had to find about £1500 - £2000 to get me and OH there, I'm not sure I'd be delighted!
Oh well, off to think about it all... I wish I could just win a wedding so I don't have to worry about it all!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
I'd be !!!!ed Birdie, and unless it was a very, very close relative I wouldn't go. I only get a small amount of holiday time and money to spend on holidays a year, I wouldn't want to feel dictated to on how I use it.

Hey Everybody,
Sorry I haven't posted in a few days. Blame it on the nightshifts - no point reading the thread if there is nobody to post!
Anyway, we made a decision about the car. We went for the Toyota Aygo Blue 5dr. We know it will cost more but there were a few more factors like safety, delivery times and certainty that the government money will not run out or toyota run away from the table.
New car is expected around 10th June. Just got to keep the old petrol eating monster going.0 -
Ahhh sorry Dinah I have got a bit mixed up on the challenges. Agree with the lovely post that suggested using the stash money? Hope the chocolate therapy is helping. Take it easy on yourselves whatever you do - you have so much to be proud of. Certainly an MSE legend!
Birdie - sorry to hear you're having wedding stress. Bit worried about heading home on the weekend as I know my Mum will be narked that I don't want to get married in N. Ireland. Even though I haven't lived there for 9 years! You have to do what makes sense for the two of you. I think your plan for the restaurant sounds brilliant! And the dresses you have chosen are great
It's more important to have a good marriage than a big wedding, and better to stick to your guns and budget than worry about nosy old family x x:A :heartpuls June 2014 / £2014 in 2014 / £735.97 / 36.5%0 -
It's more important to have a good marriage than a big wedding
Couldn't agree more Lara. At the same time I know no one wants to have a miserable wedding day, but at the end of the day its only one day, it's getting the next 50 years right that are important. If he really wants to show off to his friends I'd have thought 'I've found a stunning woman to love who wants to spend the rest of her life with me' would work a lot better than 'look how much cash I have'. Anyone can have money, not everyone can be loved.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Morning everyone! Hope you're feeling a bit better re. money Dinah, first few weeks of debt-freeness are bound to be a bit bumpy and like Birdie (?) said it'll all settle down soon, especially once NIM's on regular monthly pay that you can keep track of.
Re. the wedding issue:I said we can do a really cheap wedding here then go away for a brilliant honeymoon on our own
I totally agree with this - why spend a fortune on one day trying to keep a large group of different people happy and stressing yourself out in the process, when you could have a fantastic honeymoon and a lifetime of wonderful memories? (I want a safari, if I get asked) - Like Lara (?) said, it's the marriage that's the important part.
I know what you mean about friends having rich parents helping them out, I have loads of friends who only have houses because their parents gave them a £10k deposit, or whose parents bought them a people carrier, or paid for their weddings. There's no way my Dad or OH's parents are in a position to do that but I think it's nice to work for things yourself. Well maybe not nice and obviously if Dad was in a position and offering I doubt I'd turn him down, but it's a Good Thing and Character Building.
Another boring day is on the cards I can feel it ... am half thinking of having another go at lemon cakes tonight but it was such a disaster last time...Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -

Morning all! Thanks for the wise words, I'm still all befuddled about the whole thing, just had a chat with my boss/friend and she had a rubbish cheap wedding day and a fab honeymoon first time round and she says that she regrets it. She's getting married again next year-ish and wants the big white wedding that she feels she was cheated out of last time. Think I need a talk with my Mum and see what wisdom she can offer! At the end of the day it is MY day, but I can't seem to picture it at all!
OH managed to huff himself out last night, I've learnt to leave him alone for an hour or so if he's doing his fake smile 'fine' face and he gets bored of the huff and comes to find me! Everything was fine and dandy this morning, but that might have because the Star Trek episode he was downloading was ready and he'd put it on to watch whilst eating his breakfast! He's such a geek...Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
All the wedding problems make me so so so glad I'm many years off getting married! (Saying that I have every detail planned in my head, but shh)
Hope you and your OH have made up though Birdie, there is nothing worse than a man sulk (perhaps a mother sulk) There isn't much else I can add on top of whatever one else has said but if it all gets too much, I can print you out directions to Gretna Green.
I hope the money things settle down soon Dinah, you're still working on your new budget and savings ect, try not to stress too much over it all. You always manage to find the extra money, but it is a nice excuse to eat chocolate! And for the tickets NIM wants, no chance of being able to get any discounts? Or risk going there on the night to get cheaper last minute ones?
Poolie, The Toyota Aygos are really nice cars. (Going purely on looks here!) 10th of June isn't too far away, you'll be buying a new pair of fuzzy dice in no time!
Worked up again already, looking forward to the cinema this afternoon with OH. Well if he manages to get his glasses today, poor soul is as blind as a bat.
Oooh, and for the LLROK goodie bag, I got a Hooters and Bandit necklace, a cat keyring and a blue flower pin. Thankfully nothing I can't stand the sight of so worth the £10 me thinks!0 -
