Ooh Poolie you'll have to let me know how you get on with the scrappage thing, it's something I might be thinking about for later in the year but I don't think I fully understand it! Hope the traffic's ok for you getting home!

Haha, I was having serious hair envy on Saturday too Cinny, lovely curly girls!

    Hey Tete

Well you have to have a car that was first registered before 31st August 1999. You have to have owned it for the last year.

There is only £3m in funding so only 300,000 people will qualify. Has to be done between May and March. Some manufacturers are giving bigger discounts and variations on the scheme. Worth having a look at the manfacturer websites. They scrap your old car for you so you walk in with keys and paperwork from your old car and they give you the keys to a new one.

We wanted a toyota as they are reliable and servicing costs are reasonable.

Thanks Poolie, yep mine is 1995 and I've had it 2 years, didn't know that about the limited funding though! Thing is I don't fancy the thought of having to get finance for a new car when at the moment I'm not paying anything out for it apart from tax, etrol and insurance (which is bound to shoot up on a car worth more than £400! Specially as I've only been driving 2 years...) Oh what a quandary!

Haha Dinah, I like the ruffled look! The annoying thing is my hair is really curly when it's wet, it just seems to drop out once it's dried.

OK I'm off to bed, the hot choccie is kicking in! Sweet dreams everyone!

    Hey Tete

I actually look at the insurance on our old car compared to a new car and it was actually cheaper for us. Especially since we are going down a couple of insurance groups. I have been driving over 9 years and OH past in March, we also have 2 years no claims so that is helping a bit.

Petrol - Our current car is not getting many miles to a tank of petrol so changing is actually going to be cheaper for us.

Road Tax - We currently pay £120 per year. The new car would cost us £35 this year and it is estimated to be £20 next year.

So all round I am finding it cheaper to by a new car rather than keep our current car. Also our current car past it's MOT but has a couple of advisory problems which will need fixed if we keep it so it is costing us more money to keep it on the road. For example in February we needed a new mid and rear section for the exhaust and that was over £250.

Sounds like it will pay for itself Poolie! Been looking at the Volvo C30 scheme, OHs dream car!, still can't afford it on that but dealers are coming out with great deals.

Just having a 5 minute break after an oddly busy hour at work. Got up nice and early and set off to the office before everyone else, I think this time I might actually crack the 'being the best admin assistant eeeeevvvveeeeerrrrrrr' resolution I make every month!

Now, off to plaster a smile on my face and make upteen cups of tea. Have a nice morning everyone!

Hi Poolie, hmm it's a difficult one as currently I'm running a 1litre Micra which is a lot cheaper to run petrol-wise than, say, OH's 3 year old 1.2l Corsa - something to do with being older and lighter? If I could get a car in one of the low tax bands though that would be good as mine's too old to qualify. It's one to think on definitely and there's a lot to take into consideration...

Get the tea made Cinny! I'm going for a 'worky' day too, want to be able to see my desk by the end of the day!

If you want a cheap runner Tete get an Aygo/Peugot 107/ Citroen C1. My Mum has a 107 and it is so cheap to tax and run; she must spend about £30 a month on petrol and goes all over the place in it. I want one after seeing how good it is, but my car isn't old enough for this scrappage scheme thingy and I don't really want to start thinking about a car loan/saving up for a new car at the moment!
If we're talking hair, mine was moussed and hairsprayed to death to keep that wave in it! My Remington Spin Curl thingy is fab though, really easy to use and made my usually straight yet fluffy hair nice and wavy, plus it is fun to use (it sucks your hair and spins into a dreadlock kind of thing so you look a bit rastafarian whilst it is cooling!)

That's pretty impressive Happy, when I get lumbered with night shift I can do nothing more than simply stay awake!
I've just had to text OH's Mum to ask her to go around with food this afternoon; this morning OH said 'I'll see to myself' when I was running around trying to get him fed, last time I left him without food in front of him he only ate 6 Jaffa Cakes all day!
