Ah Wendz, bless your OH! I'm fairly useless at ironing too, although I've recently crossed a threshold - now things actually have fewer creases when I've finished than when I started!

Dinah, I love the sound of your challenge - genius! Hope it's not too bad being back at work after blissful domestic week off :D I know what you mean about new accounts - we just set up a car fund for MOTs, tax, insurance etc and planning to put in about £80 per month to spread the costs a bit. The only flaw is my tax and insurance are due in November as are OH's as well as his MOT so not sure the grand total of £320 will cover it - ah well, next year should be better!

Well done on the gyming and weightloss girls! I'm doing a free weight watchers trial at the mo, so am weighing in tomorrow night at a meeting! Just remembered I've got an appointment to give blood first which could be conceived as cheating! Anyone know how much half a pint of blood weighs...:rotfl:

Lol sorry no idea. Weigh half a pint of water?!

Eeek I'd love it if our cars cost £80 a month - we put aside £250 a month to cover both insurances, tax, MOTs etc, and it does actually cost about that per year! NIM is seriously hankering for a new car, it's actually starting to get me down, as I want him to be able to have a nicer car, but we're suppossed to be saving for a house, furniture for said house and possibly a wedding, we just can't afford it right now. However no matter how many times I say this, he doesn't stop coming up with a 'great idea' on how a nearly new diesel would save us money..... nowhere near as much as we'd spend on it, and we simply don't have the money saved up for a new car atm.

Oh I think they'll cost a lot more than £80 a month too - it's just to soften the blow! The rest of the spare cash is still going towards debts until then.

Tricky situation with NIM - I empathise with both of you. It's very tough saving up for the future because you don't get any instant gratification, but ultimately it's well worth it for your wedding, house and life together. Essentially buying a car is a huge waste of money (especially) if you don't really need one, even if it will work out cheaper over 50,000 miles of 5 years or whatever. If you don't have a budget for it at the moment then anything you do will be taking a step back - I don't know what to suggest... Does he want a diesel because in the long run it will save money or is it just because he wants a new car?

IMHO a nearly new diesel would be a massive expense that you can live without. Is there anything inherently wrong with what he's got apart from the sump and alloys? OH picked up an LPG Audi A4 just over a year ago for £1000 and he's saved an absolute fortune with gas costing still costing around 50p a litre. So there are other alternatives if it's just about the moneysaving...

Ooh btw, has your cashback for Graze tracked? The site crashed just as I was finalising my order so not sure it's worked... Got my box though - not bad!

Haven't checked if it has tracked actually, will have to look.

His car may or may not be on its last legs, I still think we should run it until it dies, then look to replace it. The idea would probably be that I got the diesel as I do a lot of miles, and he got my current car. Had never actually considered LPG though but it would save us about £100 a month....

My insurance, tax and MOT is all in November as well. I have got the money for tax put aside but hoping the MOT won't find much wrong. OH said he will help out if I need money, massive help him having more money now! My dad paid my insurance last year which is part of the money I owe him so can either do that again or pay it monthly but that adds on quite a bit over the year.

Not all of them make you pay more for paying monthly I don't think Wendz. I put mine on my OD this year, very bad, so that needs paying off. I'll see how much the MOT costs this month and if it's not tooooo bad (touch wood!) then hopefully I can pay off most of the insurance. I'm the same as you though - June, July, August are tax, insurance, MOT months - obviously it's a lot worse to have them in November though, yikes!

Oooh my MOT is in 5 weeks, need to start thinking about that. Will take it in when dad comes back so he can give me a lift to work. Hopefully no major issues.

I am going to do my MOT last week of October as I am off work plus will mean I can pay for that then and the insurance November.

Tete I will have a look into that for insurance. Hoping mine will have gone down more this year.

Am going to start saving up vouchers when I have the wii fit for christmas stuff to take the pain off the bank account. So far I have about 15 quid nectar points and 11 pounds on my boots card.

Mine was only £240 this year and I've only been driving for two years. I put Dad and OH on and that lowered it a fair bit, but that said, the car is ancient so I think that's the key!

Mine would have been about £360 (driving 7 years, 6 years NCB but group 16 car!) but then NIM came along and it went up to nearly £700!
