Glad to see the cat is doing OK.

I seem to be doing rubbishly with my 5 pounds a day challenge. Have got 50 quid due in cheque and also ten pounds voucher so if they turn up will be doing a lot better.

Hello! Been busy this morning working and sneakily reading Harry Potter whenever no-one's watching! We're going to see it tonight and I've still got 60 pages to go!
Is there no theme to the fancy dress party Dinah? I love fancy dress but you need a theme to get you started!
Golf was good last night, I think I'm getting better! The club is putting on a mini game for us on Saturday afternoon so I'm going along, should be fun!
My boss has e-mailed me to say she'll be calling me later about working away longer, 'quite a while' was the wording. Not too happy about this, will have to see what that means!

Is it in the contract that you have to do it Birdie? I wouldn't be happy either. I'd be asking for a bonus for being away from home for so long and doing additional duties not in your contract.

I wouldn't be happy about that. You will have to find out what they mean and then decide whether you want to (if you have a choice).

You will have to let us know how Harry Potter is. I want to go next week with my sister. She said she will come withe me if i go see the film about Coco Chanel when it comes out.

I don't think my company believes in 'contracted duties' until they can use it to their advantage! I think it is a given amongst all employees that you are all for the company and everything else - family, friends, hobbies- comes second to work. We have been promised a move to a country house hotel which sounds better than a Best Western, but I don't want to be away from home so much. I'm not a manager, I have no position within the company other than general office pleb so should not be expected to put myself out for them, if I was on double my salary I'd understand it!
I'm looking forward to Harry Potter tonight, I hope it's good! I've been fairly let down by all of the films so far but I haven't given up hope that I'll be really impressed by at least 1 out of 7 (or 8 since they're splitting the last one into 2 films)!

On double the salary though, that's still be what you're used to, and you wouldn't want to do it without an incentive!

Very true but bearing in mind that they're closing the depot I'll be working in because the company can't afford it I think demands of bonuses are going to be laughed at. The problem is that I don't have a lot of choice, nor do they. Not wanting to be all up myself but I'm the quickest learner on the admin team (which is why I also double as the trainer!), I'm good at writing up idiot proof notes, I adapt well to new work, and I'm generally a fast worker. And since I'm only technically seconded to the team (the only way they could get around moving me from the 2-10 shift was to second me to admin claiming that they needed me more than the other shift did!) I'm seen as the easy to move option, i.e. I have to prove my flexibility to justify my job. There really isn't anyone else they can send.

That is the downfall of being good at your job, you always have to do things you may not want to. I would wait and find out how long you would be gone for. If it is that long, it seems unfair for them to send you away that whole time. I understand what you are saying though about how you don't have much choice.

Well I've just spoken to her and at worst it'll be until 21st August but I may be able to go on a week-on-week-off basis which I suppose is an OK compromise. I think the idea is to give me the project to work on when we bring the work back here with us (it's a section of the company that is moving to our warehouse because the other one is closing) and you never know, I could be seen as Super Birdie by the company and put in charge! Doubtful but crazier things have happened! Now I just have to break it to OH...
