Surely that should be enforced under the counter fraud system
Yet another reason why I don't like supermarkets.
I've seen me buying maybe some peppers (no way I'd have eaten peppers when I was 2, but she loves 'em!) and oranges and bread and stuff at somerfield, in between big tesco shops, and the valid part of the shop coming to say £2.50 and them taking £3 off it.
It comes down to the checkout assistant, and I'm sure half of them haven't been told the rules regarding these things. Perhaps if I hadn't bought any veg and the trolley was full of beer and chocolate they might say something, but I definitely don't get a £2.50 discount for buying £2.50's worth of veg, it's the full £3 (or £3.10 now) each time. I guess there'd be an uproar about refunds if they decided to stick rigidly to the rules. Why can this not be implemented?Shoot me down in flames but I think in the not too distant future cash will become obsolete anyway. We are half way there already.
It'd be nice, but I don't see it happening any time soon. The reasons it can't be implemented are:
The sheer cost of upgrading each and every bus to be able to accept cards would be crippling. Fares would probably double. Trains are ahead of buses in that respect (and many others).
People without bank accounts, or without accounts with debit/credit card facilities.
Paying people like window cleaners, the gardener, the guys who hose down your wheely bin, sponsoring kids' charity runs...
Becoming completely moneyless, you're screwed if you lose your wallet.
A cashless society would be great, but along with spaceman food pills and half the other stuff we saw on Tomorrow's World, I doubt it'll happen any time soon.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -

You mean you are NOT microchipped?0 -

Very true, but it wasn't cheap to implement.lostinrates wrote: »You mean you are NOT microchipped?
I do quite like the idea of getting the chip from an oyster card implanted subdermally, so I just have to wave my hand over the scanner and it lets me on the train...

No it wasn't cheap to implement. I've not suggested it were. I've consistently aserted I don't think any of this is practical, but have been exploring theoretical solutions.
Never get the chip in your hand, your hand holds your phone and as any London gilr will tell you oyster in clutch bag near phone, never works. The ohone wipes your oyster out.
Just below the crook of your arm has consistantly worked for me. I tried back of the neck like my pets but it was hard to get over the swipey bit.0 -
Vouchers (or goods) could be traded. Only solution - soup kitchens, chain gangs, and debtors' prisons.0

Maybe claimants could be put in wooden stocks in town squares and have their food thrown at them along with torrents of abuse ... and before people rush to push it into legislation I am being ironic."I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." — Confucius0

Just for clarification - I was not being sarcastic.0

My poor DH is very very disabled, you meet him and remember him, hoping you never end up like that.
I`ve always worked and supported the family which is only just as well as his benefit of £100 per week pays for very little.
I`ve always wondered who are these people who get alot in benefits? It has never been us!
I am an expert on money management, like alot of people in a similar situation I`ve had to be, so tokens wouldn`t work for us.
Just as a nice general observation, I find people who can so easily cast judgement have never experienced the tougher side of life, never can believe it may happen to them and think that all aspects of life can be controlled. Sometimes it just doesn`t work out that way.0 -
Imagine all the things they could do... visit elderly people, remove graffiti, make the streets clean, hundreds of other things.
Instead of wasting all this talent, we should be using it to make society better.
Maybe you would like to see us all in prison on day release to do the countries dirty work, that way we get to eat prison slop at half the price a good nights sleep and no extra bills to pay0
