    Maz,

There are plenty of what they call sprint triathlons based around a local pool - so no need to go in the sea. They are usually 400m Swim, 20km bike and 5 km run.
My wife is the real triathlete having done lots of the full olympic distance (1.5KM/40km/10km) I have only done a couple of the sprint ones (I tend to enjoy cycling more and so do races/long distance challenges - the bike equivilent of the marathon).

I think the sea is a nice place to swim compared to some of the skanky looking lakes my wife has swum in!

You should give it a go - the short distance ones have all-comers on bikes with panniers. mountain bikes etc. And all ages too!

Thanks Stan! I'll put that on my to do list for when i get to my goal weight!!!

20km cycle still seems quite far to me!!

I love biking, but i'm more of a "lalalalala lovely scenery isn't it" kinda gal!

    You're wife sounds pretty amazing!!

You'd certainly need to get some prescription goggles then, or see if you can function with just normal ones, i mean as long as you can kinda see, then you'd be okay....

but it would be very hard to get even the basics correct if you don't go face in on the first lesson and overcome that hurdle... i was so elated after my first lesson as i was swimming with my face underwater for the first time ever... everything after that was secondary...

if i ever free up the time, i'd like to go back to lessons to improve my techniques more but for now, i have learned enough to feel confident about swimming with the early risers before work.... albeit i'm still slow.

You've no idea how impressed I am by that, I am really not good at getting my face underwater :o Hmm, we'll see...

honestly, i was petrified!! Erin could do it no bother, in fact her swimming was leaving me behind!

But somehow something just clicked and now it's second nature... i used to ask her and Big G to explain how they did it, but it never gelled but somehow it did that day and i was hyper! I'm sure i came here and posted that night (no doubt!) and was bouncing off the walls.....
