I'm quite excited about my run on saturday as it's the first one i'll have done with chip timing.... it has a paper/plastic strap for your ankle but would you guys recommend tying it to your laces instead?

Ankle is fine for those things - they use them all the time like this in triathlons (when the swimming leg you don't use shoes!). The reason for the Marathon using tyvek tags on the laces is that when you are trying to remove 35000 of them undoing a ankle thing gets time consuming!

What are the distances for a basic entry level triathlon....?

i really admired Jlo when she did her triathlon... does that me sounds like a Ok magazine reading airhead?!!

Maz I think the standard is 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10k run, but I know they do lower distances sometimes...

so the swim in a pool would take me ooooh i dunno an hour or maybe more, as it's 60 lengths......

    the bike would take me...... 3.5 hours+ @ 7mph (11.25kmh)

and the run would take me an 1hr 17min (on my previous 10km pace)

It would all be over by the time i got back!!! everyone would have gone home, lol!!!!!! and that's not allowing for fatigued legs after subsequent events!!

Oh well, back to the drawing board!!

I'm seriously considering a half marathon next year, but i need to get my predicted time down to 2:45 minimum, am currently at just under 3hours pace.... what a slow coach i am! and that's with great improvements!
