For most halfs the time limit is 3 hours, but for some (like Freckleton) its 2:40...

There are usually some good 10 mile races around in Dec/Jan that you can do as a step up if you want to try pushing the distance

Thanks guys, you've just reminded me that I saw a poster earlier for adult swimming lessons and meant to look into it! I love the water but am not a great swimmer.

Talking of fitness - http://www.marieclaire.co.uk/lifestyle/best/11187/1/1/tips-for-getting-fit.html - so this is why I got a flat stomach when I was running lots and not when I was doing lots of sit-ups!

Yep I've always had a flat tum (its in my genes ;)), but the running is giving me this amazing six pack - also its amazing how much easier running is when you have storng core muscles - so if anyone is finding it tough some gym work on the core muscles can really really help with the speed :D

Snags, I have one of those too, only mine is fast falling to the total !!!!!! category :( My suggestion would be to ask him out for a specific date sometime next week, then even if he's busy, he's got time to work around it.

Why can't they just be straight with us?

Do they think they're doing us a favour by not telling us if they don't want to see us?

I'm sure I would be happier just being single except that I miss......stuff.... :o:D;)

my swimming lessons were undoubtedly one of the best things i ever did....

good goggles are the key thing.... well that and a swim suit, obviously!

    Maz,

There are plenty of what they call sprint triathlons based around a local pool - so no need to go in the sea. They are usually 400m Swim, 20km bike and 5 km run.
My wife is the real triathlete having done lots of the full olympic distance (1.5KM/40km/10km) I have only done a couple of the sprint ones (I tend to enjoy cycling more and so do races/long distance challenges - the bike equivilent of the marathon).

I think the sea is a nice place to swim compared to some of the skanky looking lakes my wife has swum in!

You should give it a go - the short distance ones have all-comers on bikes with panniers. mountain bikes etc. And all ages too!

The council are doing 8 for £10 which I thought was pretty good. Had a quick look but the ones I've found so far are at silly times (weekday afternoons or Saturday night!)

Can't wear contacts.. when I do occasionally swim I keep my glasses on :o Might have to look into prescription goggles.

You'd certainly need to get some prescription goggles then, or see if you can function with just normal ones, i mean as long as you can kinda see, then you'd be okay....

but it would be very hard to get even the basics correct if you don't go face in on the first lesson and overcome that hurdle... i was so elated after my first lesson as i was swimming with my face underwater for the first time ever... everything after that was secondary...

if i ever free up the time, i'd like to go back to lessons to improve my techniques more but for now, i have learned enough to feel confident about swimming with the early risers before work.... albeit i'm still slow.
