Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Fri 24th April. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!#
Morning.
Me again. Does'nt anyone else get up early?
Dull and overcast with rain forcast later this evening. Not too bad I suppose should be good for the blossoms and stuff. Seems to be a really good start to the year so far for blossom. Maybe I will get some honey from my bees this year!
Yesterday was annoying as I came out to find that someone had smashed the window of the OH car. We live in a fairly rural area and so it was unusual, nothing stolen, but still a lot of damage and mess. I have done the plastic and tape thing for now until I get a new glass, which thankfully is only £22 plus vat. Neighbour will fit it. I can understand why it is that people get so angry at petty crime, but it still makes it no easier to detect.
Court today, see if we can lock up a couple of teen robbers. Supposed to be my day off, but often we end up working on the friday day off as that's when the court does all it's mop up cases and sentences. I will get a day back.
So the weekend... I am off and will probs go to PZ with the missus by train if they are not fixing the track again.
Have a great weekend.

I don't normally post on these threads (they are normally tooooooo long by the time I get to log on). However my daughter decided she wanted to start the day at 4.30am - does that count for getting up early N9eav?!!!
Was going to do quite a number of things this morning whilst my son was a pre school but at this rate I think I'll be wandering round like a zombie. Aiming to clean up my old pram so I can try and sell it and was going to make some of Twinks Hob Nobs because I NEEEEEEEEEED the comfort food to keep me awake!
Feels much cooler today which is a shame, wanted to work on my tan again by doing some weeding in the garden.
have a great day all and if anyone has any advice on 9 month olds who won't co-operate sleep wise I am all earsI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Good morning everyone  Old Style jobs for today:
- Flylady list
- pot up tumbling tomato plants that came through the post
- pot on sweetcorn, courgette, quinoia plants
- baking
- I've taken the last of the HG tomatoes from the freezer to make tomato chilli relish (I have a Scotch bonnet chilli, too; dare I use it
)
- menu plan and shopping list
- find a pattern for a crochet Granny Square messenger bag
- buy new teapot
Spinach and squash lasagne for supper; I'm sat eating the last of the HM apricot and cinnamon loaf, toasted, and watching the Charm of Goldfinches in my eucalyptus tree :T
Oooops, DD is making herself lunch (the Y11s are having a picnic on the field) and has dropped my teapot lid - shattered into 1000 tiny piecesAnother job to add to the list
Have a great day, Penny. x:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -

Well I like to drool over my Nigella Domestic Goddess book but then rake out my Margeurite Pattern book which is much easier to follow.
I like my treats simple with lashing of chocolate so probably not that inspiring to youI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Good Morning Everyone
Sorry to hear about the window N9eav - what was the point at that? makes me mad . I remember being bored as a teenager but there is no respect nowdays (now I sound like a mad old lady:rolleyes:)
Lovely day here again but I dont think its meant to last for the weekend. Dry today though so will be line drying again :jhavnt used the TD all week. Have DS at home as he has a non pupil day & I have promised him a Maccy D breakfast as his sister had one Monday. So will get dressed in a mo and head out. Our local one is right next to Tesco so will pop in there (with a basket so little temptation) as need some fruit and washing powder.
Some office work to do then will do a little housework. Have no dogs today so will definately be washing the kitchen floor. DS will hopefully be playing out with his mates.
PenPen - I am quite predictable - fudge brownies, carrot cake and muffins. I do need to get more adventerous too and also more in a routine of a baking day each week.
Have jiggled the menu plan this week but think it is pork kebabs with onion rice and pitta tonight.
Have a great Friday.

'A charm of goldfinches' I like that Penny. According to google you can also have 'a glister of goldfinches' or 'a trembling' amongst many others.
I've been after a big messenger bag for carrying my French folders about it. I hadn't thought about crocheting one. I imagine it would need a fabric lining?
My favourite baking treats were becoming so frequent that they were no longer treats but everyday food. Not good for us. I'm switching to a more wholesome and plain baking style with less sugar. Bread and jam, wholemeal scones, fruit bread. Chocolate biscuit cake has been a recent yummy but overindulgent treat (nice made with gingernuts and some chopped preserved ginger).
Today me and dd will cycle to school and then I shall cycle up to the big Tesco whose threshold I have not crossed for months despite it being my nearest shop- I hate Tesco. I will buy 3 bottles of wine and a small carton of yogurt to start my next batch.
I'm going to try a cheese pudding for tea tonight (breadcrumbs, eggs and cheese). I've not cooked anything like that for dd because of her egg allergy, but she can eat yorkshire pud now so I think this may be a goer too;) We'll have it with salad and peas.
Update on miserable ds2- He didn't come home grumpy, luckily a friend had asked him round to play (not really the right word for a 12 yo -maybe 'hang out' is better) so he eventually arrived home in an extremely good mood and harmony was restored chez Thrift.0 -
