Hi, I have been attending my dentist and getting my teeth whitened
Can I buy direct from the internet (polanight) rather than the dentist as its cheaper

Tooth whitening gels are not available direct to the public legally. Therefore any product you get from the internet will have come to the market in a very 'indirect' way.

You will hsave no guarantees on how it has been sourced, how it has been stored, how old it is, or even if it is what it says it is on the box.

If you're lucky, it might be harmless, if you're unlucky it could be a dangerous fake!

How much of a risk do you want to take with your teeth?

Plus - once done, they really shouldn't need much 'topping up' and getting it from the dentist allows him to keep tabs on it, and make sure you're not overdoing it.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

It is illegal to sell these products direct to the public and indeed polanight warn people about illegal websites http://www.sitejabber.com/reviews/www.happysmileuk.com

Here is the text from that site from the owner of the company that makes polanight

Happy Smile UK and Polanight.co.uk are businesses claiming to be distributors of SDI Pola whitening products .

I am the founder and managing director of SDI Ltd which is the manufacturer of all Pola products- please refe to https://www.sdi.com.au

Happy Smiles/Polanight.co obtain our products via dubious means. Pola products are manufactured in very strictly controlled enviroments, low temperatures and are transported to our legal distributors in temperature controlled conditions- hydrogen peroxide ( carbamide peroxide) is susceptable to warm temperature. Therefore I fear that what Happy Smiles/Polanight.co are offering an unsuspecting public is inferior, poorly controlled, out of date and ineffective product. This will result in a poor whitening effect at least and serious oral damage at the worst.

DO NOT purchase Pola products from Happy Smiles/Polanight.co- it may be cheaper but it WILL be be faulty and maybe dangerous. The only way to purchase these materials is to visit your dentist who will prescribe the correct product and will guarantee that it works-

And a message for Happy Smiles/Polanight.co. Cease and Desist this illegal trade or face the full legal consequenses from SDI and the UK Authorities who monitor such business- continue and our legal team is coming to get you!

You can make your own mind up whether it is safe or a good idea to purchase goods that are supplied illegally.

Hi the other thing is that my dentist used carbon peroxide 16%, unfortunately my dentist has left and he only uses 10%
I had a few crowns replaces so that the gel would work on my teeth
    Not particularly happy

I don't quite follow what you're saying there. Crowns wouldn't usually be changed until a stable result that both dentist and patient were happy with was achieved. So why would you continue to bleach afterwards?

10% and 16% will both get to the same shade in the end. Some dentists prefer to use 10% as although a bit slower, there is probably less chance of sensitivity using it.

16% will not make your teeth any whiter than 10%.

Oh right didn't know that it was to top my teeth up
  • Joewa, your posts make no sense at all. Toothsmith didn't mention topping up.

When were your crowns replaced? What shade did you hope for with bleaching and what shade did you start with?

I just got an email about a wowcher deal for Smile Science tooth whitening non bleach strips for £15 for 14. I wondered if anyone had any reviews of them?
I was given some Crest Ultimate white strips to use (high bleach content), they're pretty expensive though, have used about 7 of them so far.

    Avoid like the plague!

If they say 'non-bleach' but don't tell you what it actually IS doing the whitening, then its either useless or dodgy.

Smile science are a bunch of illegal whiteners who are now trying to move away from whitening people's teeth themselves (as prosecutions are now flowing quite successfully) and into supplying products, where enforcement hasn't caught up with the law yet.

ok thanks Toothsmith, how about the Crest white strips high peroxide, what do you make of them? I haven't had any sensitivity or problems but haven't noticed any/much whitening yet, although I have only used a handful of strips for 30 mins twice a day. Should I invest in a full box? Thanks
