Confused!?
I would watch the news on that one. It takes quite a time to build a case but that one is , I believe, the next in the pipeline. A bit like pearl national who were a big chain until prosecuted. Interestingly they also had a rather lax approach to their tax affairs http://www.gdc-uk.org/Newsandpublications/Pressreleases/Pages/GDC-successfully-prosecutes-tooth-whitening-company.aspx0 -

How can someone defend people being harmed because it is standard business practice?
I said that not everyone is doing this. It is inevitable some people will, but not always deliberately. Operating a business is a minefield, I know, I run several and therefore it is inevitable most will break some law at some time, some deliberately and some unintentionally. M&S using cheap child labour for as long they could get away with it. This was very wrong.
Many TW businesses may not know they are crossing the line due to the training they received. Unlike M&S they can be forgiven and should be given a warning rather than being prosecuted. Unless they knowingly harmed people of course.0 -

Yes they did.
I will watch with interest. Thanks
I believe, from what I have read the Pearl National operatives were given a warning.0 -

Which is precisely why the GDC is publicising the campaign . However the use of terms such as fully qualified dental bleaching technician, pictures of people in dental tunics or of dentists on websites, and businesses refusing to give people details of gdc numbers to check registration, or details on product information sheets of chemicals used which they are legally obliged to do certainly gives the impression many know they are breaking the law.0 -
Correct.
But there is still a right way to go about sorting the problem out.
I am concerned some people/organisations are crossing the line to achieve their objectives.
Not all TW businesses are the same and bona fide businesses have received confirmation to this effect from the GDC & TS. Unless of course they are lying, which I doubt, as it will cost them a great deal of money in law suits.0 -
Read the GDC website. It is unequivocal tooth whitening is the practice of dentistry. Full stop, there are no caveats or exclusions.
The nhs also agrees http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/dentalhealth/Pages/teeth-whitening.aspx , as do beauticians organisations, trading standards nationally etc.
There is no such thing as a bona fide tooth whitening business, according to this definition and the GDC will not confirm a tooth whitening business as legitimate , the same way it does not approve tooth whitening chemicals as published on an illegal whiteners website link I posted earlier.0 -

If a business is not touching a client, who also self prescribes and self administers with a legal product that holds a safety cert and a full list of ingredients. I cannot see how they can possibly be breaking the law.
I have tried the products and the process is comfortable and effective.
The peroxide treatment I received 4 years ago was horrendous.
If what you state is true we have come full circle, why isn't TS taking action?0 -
Full circle indeed, TS do not prosecute illegal practice of dentistry the GDC do.
However TS May well take an interest as every tray system I've seen uses hydrogen peroxide as on the website above where O2 gel contains 6% hydrogen peroxide , and the other gel equivalent to 25%.
Indeed a well known chemist withdrew sales of a kit shortly after it was found along with the trays carbamine peroxide was being provided, which of course breaks down to release hydrogen peroxide.
The simple truth is nothing whitens teeth unless it is hydrogen peroxide (carbamine peroxide, sodium perborate) which is illegal for anyone other than dentists to use, or chlorine dioxide which destroys enamel , is dangerous to asthmatics and is used as swimming pool cleaner!0 -

I do hope you are taking a dentists advice on this. As a disinterested consumer advisor you are taking great risks with your oral health by repeatedly trying out whitening products. The problems of erosion of dental enamel and damage to soft tissue has given rise to the term bleachorexic where people repeatedly whiten teeth to get a blinding white appearance to the detriment of their oral health.http://abcnews.go.com/m/story?id=13733092&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bing.com%2Fsearch%3Fpc%3DAMAZ%26form%3DAMAZWB%26setmkt%3Den-GB%26q%3Dbleachorexic0 -
