Advice on Teeth Whitening Discussion Thread

Hello all,
I've been debating getting my teeth whitened for a while now and I've read through all the posts (I know how sad!!) but I'm still unsure if home whitening is safe.
I've found this site smile-brighter.co.uk/pages/custom-made-trays.php which does custom made trays and I'm wondering if anyone else has used them or could provide any advice?
After getting these I was considering using this site dentist.net/bleaching-gel-refills.asp to get the necessary gels.
What does everyone think?

If you are going to do it ... see a dentist.0

Blanx Whitening and Intensive Stain Removal - are these really any good? Also, I am interested in Biorepair toothpaste which claims to rebuild tooth enamel - is there any truth in this or is it market speak? Thanks in advance.
I discovered Blanx a couple of months ago and am really impressed with it. As a smoker unfortunately it doesn't work miracles but the Blanx toothpaste I've found to be streets ahead of any others of its ilke out there. I haven't tried the whitening kit though. I'm sceptical it will make any real noticable difference having tried other similar ones in the past.
Professional whitening wise my advice is to have it done only by a dentist. If you can't afford it err on the side of caution and live with not having it done or save until you can.
I've had Britesmile done twice via a dentist. First time tremendous results. My teeth were very yellow beforehand and were milky white an hour later after it was done. Seven shades lighter apparently. Second time my teeth weren't too bad and lightened that time by five shades.
Its quick-an hour tops, instant results, costly yep but it was three years before I felt the need to repeat it ...and I'm a smoker!
I've also had them done by "Style Smile" clinics. Half the price, done by a dental nurse, whiter results than the Britesmile but, in my opinion, its a far harsher treatment to have than Britesmile was. My teeth were just stripped of all shine afterwards and it took a few weeks for that shine to fully come back. I've had the odd sore gum areas now and then after it too which may be coincidence, maybe not. My teeth are still fine (dental checks ok etc) but my gut feeling is that treatments by these type of places and not done by dentists are just not worth the risk. I'd rather have a full set of yellowish teeth than half a set which are white.
The second time I had it done without warning they used the harshest gel too...and nearly burnt half my lip off in the process. When broke but wanting them done I've used them but I wouldn't chance it again.
Overall the best way to do it I believe is, if you want instant results, to get the lazer whitening done but get fitted for the mouthpiece for the home whitening treatment too at the same time so you have the best of both. Yep more expense again but if you get the two combined there's usually a good discount. Its what I'm planning to do when I next have the funds to get mine done again.0 -
See Pearl Drops are now advertising a 'brush on' instant whitener. Not available at my local chemists so guess this is a new product. Have no knowledge of it at all - does anyone? Good - yes/no?Make the most of everything in life (especially Avon

Isn't this the one that's a bit like 'Tippex for Teeth'?
I think it's crap if that's the one.How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

That highly respected research organisation "This morning" with Philip Schofield did a comparison of over the counter whitening agents and dentist performed tooth whitening.
The poor lad who had that gunk painted on his teeth said "I cant wait to get it off" It looked streaky and he said it felt like he hadn't brushed for days.
Oddly enough the dentist provided whitening came up top.:cool:0 -
I recently had my teeth whitened at this laser teeth whitening clinic London called Style Smile Clinic. Everything from the experience to the results were fantastic! I highly recommend this clinic. The treatment took around 12 mins and completely pain free. My teeth are visibly lighter with a nice white colouring NOT ridiculously white.
This clinic specialise in laser teeth whitening so I felt I was in safe hands. They have clinics all over UK " we have laser teeth whitening clinics in London, Liverpool, Newcastle, Nottingham and many more"
Highly recommend this company, Check it out!!

give them a few days or so to make sure they say white. They may be dehydrated at present which makes them look whiter. FWIW I have never heard of any lasers being that good at whitening ... hence all the dental courses and presentations seem to be about bleaching gels and the carrier trays to put them in0

having looked at the video my money is on dehydration0
