You're fine joewa you're doing whatever you're doing with professional advice.

But - you must remember that there will be members of 'the general public' who read what you're writing and just trog off to the shops, get some peroxide, dilute it to 9% and woosh it round their mouths.

I do not know every single presentation of every single tooth whitening product out there. I do not know of a 9% peroxide product, but that doesn't mean one doesn't exist.

But I DO know, if a dentist prescribed it, the dentist will think that YOU are suitable for that product.

Doesn't mean anybody can whip up a 9% peroxide solution and bung it on their teeth.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

I understand where you're coming from but it seems highly unlikely that joewa is some kind of special case, like the 1 in 10 patient which joewa's dentist feels can tolerate 9% peroxide, when most patients cannot. I'm sure it's not like that.

I don't suffer from allergies or any kind of hypersensitivity, so it's at my risk that I deem myself a likely suitable candidate for similar products.

I say 'similar' because I don't use 'medical grade' hydrogen peroxide, so the next risk I take is that the hair products only have trace elements, or potential impurities, which are insignificant in terms of harm to me, and so far, so good.

I expect I take greater care not to swallow anything, than patients using products provided by dentists.

Sounds like he is using something given to him by his dentist - not stuff off e bay meant for hair
  • I started tooth whitening 8 days ago and am already amazed at the results! I went for the dentist treatment -was 345.00 to include the specially made trays and 10 syringes of carbamide 16%.

I've doing my top teeth first so I can compare and to say I'm chuffed is an understatement! I'm a fifty something who loves red wine and coffee and never thought it would work so well. Got another 6 days of 'top set' then I'll do the bottom teeth. Found the 'trays' really easy and hasn't stopped me sleeping. Oh.. and a plus point - have lost 4 pounds in a week cos I've given up (albeit temporarily) the red wine!:D

    1. I already acknowledged that, and admitted there's a risk of sourcing the products yourself. I view the risk as negligible, in return for saving almost £345.

    2. I didn't buy the hydrogen peroxide off eBay and, even if I had, I'd have every confidence in the sellers and their products.

you are a very trusting man. Glad they arent my teeth mind!
  • I bought Crest Whitestrips Supreme from Ebay, used the 1st strip yesterday and had shooting pain in localised areas in 3 of my teeth, but no discomfort anywhere else at all. Maybe I have a cavity, I've decided to hold off the Whitestrips and use an anti-sensitivity tooth paste for 2 or 3 weeks and then try again, if the pain is still there then I'll have to leave it until I visit a dentist.

What would be the best OTC toothpaste for restoring damaged enamel assuming thats the cause of my sensitive tooth reaction? I've purchased Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief but friends are saying I should try Sensodyne, does anyone have experience using both?

I'm having tooth whitening with my dentist and it's going really well. My dentist recommended Sensodyne(gave me a small tube) and said that if I got discomfort to fill my trays with sensodyne instead of the peroxide for a few nights. I know you don't have the trays but that advice sounds as if Sensodyne helps with sensitivity, even if you leave it on rather than rinsing it should help.
  • I would love a bit of advice. I have been wondering about a couple of Blanx products and whether you know if there is any substance in their claims? Blanx Whitening and Intensive Stain Removal - are these really any good? Also, I am interested in Biorepair toothpaste which claims to rebuild tooth enamel - is there any truth in this or is it market speak? Thanks in advance.
