My daughter has to wear a retainer every night now for ever as she has a problematic twisting tooth that moves so easily. She has used a whitening tray before she was told to wear her retainer every night, she used it once for about 3 or 4 weeks to get a good result but now she has to wear a retainer every night is there any way around this as she wanted to top up?Thanx

Ask the dentist.
I would have thought that alternate nights of retainer and tray would be OK - or even 2 nights retainer one night tray would get a result - BUT I'VE NOT SEEN HER AND DON'T KNOW THE SITUATION. So don't take my word for it.How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
I got mine done there a while back and I was pretty pleased with the results. They did a 1.5hr in-studio whitening treatment whilst I watched a film, then I was given some gel to apply to my teeth at home. I did this twice a day (20min) for a week, and then once a day for a week, and made sure I didn't drink any coffee or red wine during this period.
They took before and after photos, together with computer analysis of the shade of my teeth, and the difference afterwards was considerable, especially on my canines, which were pretty yellow before. Also, I experienced hardly any pain in my teeth during the whole process, which is great as I have sensitive teeth and was worried about this.
I've still got a syringe of gel left, which I can use to top up the result in the future.
So overall, I'd say it was a decent treatment. They do different types of treatment - in-house plus home-whitening (I had the 'chairside' treatment, not the 'supreme chairside'), or home-whitening only. It's about £150 cheaper to do home-only and you'd probably get almost as good a result (you just have to do it for longer), so that might be an option if you're concerned about the cost.0 -
I am interested in purchasing hydrogen peroxide and sodium bicarbonate to whiten my teeth however have no idea where I can purchase these items from and how much they would cost.
What is more effective hydrogen peroxide at 7.5%, 30% etc
Or I am I better off purchasing carbamide peroxide.
Thank you0 -
Hi, I had the home whitening kit from smilestudio - bit squeamish about the laser. Cost £175 plus £15 for same day guards. Gel lasted about 10 days. I did see a difference but not as much as I liked. As directed I called up and was quoted £50 for another syringe of stuff. Bit cheeky I think as packet says there should have been 2 syringes in the box but they take one out and charge extra for it. They do say on website with home guards you can go 8 shades whiter but when you get there they tell you 4 shades whiter then buy the second syringe so please don't let price be your only guide here as it may cost more than you think.
Bit risky I know but I bought some syringes from ebay.com which my friend uses and they have been great. You do need moulded guards to use these products though. Does make teeth sensitive during treatment so I gave it a rest over christmas and am back on it now.0 -
There are many options available in the market fortooth whitening that meets your needs, they freshen breath and help us to reduce dental plaque and gum disease. But i would recommend you to purchase it from Gosmile.com, As GO SMiLE's Two-Step Smile Program is the fast, easy, totally modern way to whiten your teeth and keep them white! Forget those messy, time-consuming, and uncomfortable strips and trays. An ideal solution for those with busy schedules. I have used it earlier and got amazing results0

Hi,
This is my first post, I may be going over something you covered before. There was a teeth whitening place at the shopping mall I went last weekend, it was only £99! Takes about an hour. I spoke to someone who just had it done. He seemed very pleased with it. I was thinking of doing the same because i hate my teeth... I have looked at some reviews and can see dentist are strongly against it and read only one person complained. Has anyone out there got it done one of those places, did you have any problems later?????0 -
Any "immediate" whitening claims are to be taken with a pinch of salt. If you have things like the light etc or generally allow your teeth to be exposed to air for an extended period of time they quickly dehydrate giving a very noticible whitening result. This may sound great .... until they get wet again and rehydrate. Also they also may use alternative whitening agents which can be extremely aggressive and damaging to your natural teeth. What was a cheap offer in town could be an expensive trip to the dentist after ... because the whitening booth wont be offering to fix you back up again.
Any white fillings or crowns etc WONT change colour with tooth whitening0 -

Hydrogen peroxide is available in various strengths from hair products distributors like 'Sally' and perhaps from Boots. Less than £5. There's 10vol, whatever that means, being 3%, and 20vol being 6%. I'd be cautious about going to higher strengths like 30 vol 9%
Sodium bicarbonate is used in cooking and can be bought from any supermarket. Less than £1.
Both products showed promise, without any sign of bad effects, when I tried them but I didn't continue for long enough to come to any solid conclusion. They are low cost too, unlike some of the crazy prices being mentioned here for 'specialist' products.
Good luck.0 -

Good luck.
I had patients who tried this. I've also had someone who attempted cosmetic dentistry with domestos and a metal rasp.
Both were equally misguided and had similar disasterous results. Very bad chemical burns.0
