    Hi all,

Am getting married in March, and have been considering getting my teeth whitened for the big day, alongwith some other work.

I spoke to my Dentist this morning who recommended the Zoom Chairside treatment plus trays to give that immediate effect of whiter teeth.

I'm also seeing the oral hygenist as well as I have some problems with my gums.

Am I right in assuming that the trays will help me keep the teeth whiter for a longer period of time?

Any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

    That's right.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Brilliant-thats all I need to know.

Think I'll go ahead with this. £500 that will hopefully be well spent.

    Help:eek:

I've been teeth whitening under the direction of my dentist for about 4 years now. I had the original trays and whitening gel (16%) fitted and supplied by my dentist and have been topping up for 3 consecutive sessions every 6 months or so at home.

Last week I used a syringe that was 3 months out of date, but assumed that it wouldn't be harmful, but maybe less effective. Now, this may be a coincidence, but after 2 sessions a patch of enamel about 2mm square has broken away from the bottom inner edge of my top right central incisor.

To me it is very noticeable:o but tbh, I actually have to point it out before my nearest and dearest can see it:rolleyes: My front teeth are very thin and transparent at the bottom edges anyway (a bit like that pronamel advert), but I just assumed it was age (I'm 54) and wear related.

I have made an appointment with my dentist, but have to wait 10 days, as in all honesty I couldn't claim it was urgent;) . I'm hoping he can fix it with a bit of simple bonding.

Would using an out of date bleaching syringe have caused the damage:confused:? I am horrifed at the thought it is 'self inflicted! Have I taken money saving a bit too far? Arrgh:mad:
 My glass is half full
  • Of course as a dentist i would say never to use out of date chemicals or drugs as they lose thier effectiveness and may break down into harmfull products.

It is however highly unlikely that your chipped tooth is related to this and is probably just wear and tear of your natural teeth. In fact your dentist might suggest that no treatment is carried out on the tooth to repair it.
:money: Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou to everyone who has helped.

Thanks:T That's just what I wanted to hear:cool: although I hope he can do some sort of 'cover up' job on it as to me it is noticeable, and depressing me as a sign of old age!!:o

Your dentist should advise you as to what is best for you. That's the reason you're paying him a premium over just the value of the gel.
