I have recently purchased a Bissell pet vacuum and I can't rate it highly enough. I bought it directly from Bissell (link below) at the time I got it it was discounted to £50, back up to £150 now. I got this to replace my Dyson (2nd) as it just wasn't up to standard.

It certainly does sound like it's not quite right so I think returning it for refund or replacement is your best bet. My dyson has a damn good go at lifting the mattress off our futon, let alone rugs, carpets or the bathmat!

I agree with other posters that cleaning the filters gradually seems to have less effect but I believe this is because the pipes, cyclones, etc also all need cleaning, but obviously this should all have been done if it's a Dyson reconditioned unit.

I have had my DC07 for about 6 or 7 years now and wouldn't have anything else. It's dealt adminrably with everything from cat hair to plaster/brick dust.

Recently when it had a problem ("hot electrical" smell and extreme loss of power) I had it looked at by a local "Dyson recycler" in Sussex, who serviced it and fitted a new motor. It's good as new again now (I'd forgotten just how savage it could be!) and I hope to get another 6 years out of it.

BTW I think I read somewhere there is a standard price for all Dyson repairs/services that includes all parts and labour (and possibly an engineer visit) and is 60-70 pounds.

Mum had an issue with her DC07 overheating, even though the filters were OK and all the airflow pipes were good.

I took the cyclone outside and blasted it with the hosepipe in every orifice I could find, repeatedly filling and emptying it. The !!!! that came out of it was immense. Never had an issue since, and it gets the treatment every 12 months or so.

We had a dyson and it was rubbish. It used to suck ok but cut out after 5 minute of use. I took it back to costco and got the money back then bought a henry, much better.

During the dark days of Dyson owning - that was our main gripe, could only hoover one room per day - very handy;) Spent a fortune on replacing filters (as per instruction from Dyson) but it was good money after bad.

to the op about bags, I source mine (panasonic) on the internet - can't remember the site but just googled and chose one. Bags were sent, no problems:D

our local tip's regularly has dysons in it - apparently they're not worth fixing because they're not good to start with.

I have a DC04 purchased many moons ago. I have it serviced once every two years including the filter change and it's perfect. You can see it 'pulling' the carpet when you clean it and it does a good job on the tiled floors I have. I have no need for any more suction :D
I'm going for my QuidCo £million!
