We have a mixture of real wood flooring and carpets and the dyson is not great on the real wood. It tends not to pick things up well so I often end up using a brush and then one of the attachments to pick up the pile of stuff I have gathered together.

The original we had was much better made, attachments fitted better, cable was more flexible, than the current model. Not sure what we will get when this one finally dies

I think the first generation of Dysons were good, and were of a good build quality.
The lastest ones appear to be over engineered rubbish from my experiance.

Mieles seem to be doing quite well in the most recent which magazine reports. - and they are often cheaper.

Never had a Dyson before but this new one does not strike me as something well built and designed to last, the whole thing looks cheap to me, the plastic tubing and the rest... not loving it! I only paid about £170 but not worth the money IMO.

My wife had a dyson (before I met her), and it had to go back for repairs about 4 times. This coupled with the fact the cleaning was rubbish meant that she got so fed up, she took it outside and smashed it to pieces with a sledgehammer!:rotfl:

We have a DC04 which might not be the same as yours but its about 7 years old is still perfect. I took out the filters above the clear drum, it was like a filter inside a plastic holder and its a bit noisier but even better. There are quite a few pipes on the Dysons that can be taken out and checked. Its worth taking the pipes out from the rear and underneath and checking. They should all just click in and out.

    What model is it?

    It's DC23 allergy cylinder.

Haha, I feel tempted to do the same but I got it today, so hopefully I can return it!
  • I love my DC14 animal to bits, personally. We do have a George as well (Henry's badass green brother) for sucking up brick/plaster dust, but I wouldn't consider getting rid of the Dyson because I don't find pully-alongy hoovers as good as uprights for carpets. It's the main reason I don't have a Miele hoover (I worship at the Miele altar but I don't like their hoovers. Meh.).

I've had Dyson's, first one DC01 loved it, replaced it with a new one (grey & lime green) not sure of the model no., hated it. It was always tipping over when I used the hose.
I also had a cylinder Dyson for upstairs and did not pick anything up, not even talcum powder. I then got a Vax upright, sounded like Concorde was doing the hoovering.
Have now got Henry upstairs and Hetty downstairs, great hoovers but difficult to store
    away neatly.
    ML.

I've had it for over 12 years and the only problem is sourcing the bags as the model is no longer available. It also looks a bit battered but works fine.

Try diytools.co.uk - but be careful it can be addictive finding all the spares you've been looking for for ages!

    They should call them Marmite...

Ive had two, they start off great, but seem to degrade over time, even if you clean the cleanable filters!
