People on the 3 network with a Nokia 7600

I have seen the advert for the Nokia 7600 on the 3 network for £3.99 and was seriously considering getting it. Just wondered if anyone else had done so already, and if they had, whether they would mind answering a few questions please? I've read the other thread, but would just like somethings clarifying.

Is the phone unlocked? So could i put my current O2 simcard in the phone?

I keep seeing people say that 2g works fine, but 3g is problematic. Can you lock the phone to 2g? I dont want video calls anyway.

Also people regularly refer to it switching back to O2, are you refering to the phone on the 3 contract doing this? Or do you mean your old simcard? If it is the 3 contract, can you enforce this so it will always use the O2 network? Does your normal 3 calling plan still apply?

Thank you!

Also, if i get the phone, use some of my free minutes and then use the 14 day cooling off period. Am i then charged the normal rate for my free minutes, which i previously used.

Don't get too excited. Whatever the answer to your questions, I have phoned Carphone warehouse 8, yes eight times during the last few days, hoping to get a different response, but it seems this particular phone will not be available until long after Christmas. They ARE prepared to put you on a waiting list, but the problem with that is if another phone becomes available which is equally as attractive ie tarif etc, you'll have put a deposit down.

This redemption thing is a bit of a !!!!!!.

First you have to pay the first three months at £15

Then on the following 9 months, you pay £30 each month.

    Along the way, you re-claim.

At the end of this, you will have had to remember to shell out the amount required, but more importantly have to remember to reclaim at the appropriate time.

Is it worth it I ask myself.

  • If you research a bit more on this site you will find all the details you are looking for.

Search for Nokia 7600, or plough through the thread at the top (3 is it the best?)

You would have to pay for any calls made.

Thanks. I've re-read the thread and i THINK i have got the answers now. I did read through it all yestersay, but i guess i must of missed that post.

So just to confirm (to put my mind entirely at rest that i havent misunderstood something).

The phones come locked, I get to get it unlocked before I can i set the phone to always use O2 on 2g? Is that right?

If so, do you know any websites that provide instructions on unlocking the phone? Where abouts in the menu system of the phone do i set for it to read o2 only and on 2g only? Sorry but i am hopeless when it comes to mobile phones, i hate the things.

    Thanks again.
