I just think that with all the current unemployment they should think themselves lucky to have a pretty secure job.
lol i dont think you could class a job in a PO secure0 -

It is run by two eldery men who have never heard of the concept of customer service or even just smiling, you feel like in asking them to sell you a stamp- you must be asking a big favour of them.
they also use old fashioned manual scales and when you hand over a parcel they weigh it very quickly, write a little note in pencil on the corner and toss it to one side in a way that destroys your confidence it will actually get anywhere (although amazingly they do seem to)
Really you have to go there to get what i am talking about...I usually avoid them and go to the bigger post offices in town - where at least the staff give you some impression they are doing things properly.
I think it probably just varies a lot mostly depending on the staff's attitude
Sounds exactly like the local one to me,I avoid it as the old man is clueless, cant even add up! I always ask for proof of posting as have items go missing before and when you see the package get tossed in the corner with no stamp of label you do begin to worry!!0 -

My sub post office say they are not allowed to use labels for anything that could go on a large letter stamp, I love the way the rules change depending on where you live! My PO will also not issue a till receipt COP for a large letter stamped item, so they always insist on the pre printed forms being filled out for one of those which is odd as another PO I use say that the pre printed forms are being phased out (but they have been saying that for years)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. My post office love me, I go in with everything packaged up, sealed up, return address on back, address' all checked and corresponding to their system and with the recorded delivery stickers already stuck on.0

just posted a few things today.
they used to but their computers now refuse to print out in labels -
1st/2nd class stamps
1st/2nd in large letters
anything international up to 20g
and probably others too.
all these items have to be stamped. they get paid alot more for the labels so it means the po would make a loss if they printed out a 40p label for 1st class.
no label means no till receipt. I don't get what the big deal with till receipts is though - can't you claim the same on both anyway?
when you're posting letters and it takes a while, do you all stand in silence or do you try chatting with them. because you can learn loads if you do. :T 0 -

I have been selling for 10 years now , the last few 'professionally' and I even bring back gifts for my sub PO lady when I go on holiday. However, that doesn't stop her refusing to do certain things, which means every time i carry a line that is borderline large letter/packet I am forced to use another post office as she interprets the rules differently and costs me an absolute fortune. I had just gone back to using the sub PO rather than the Crown PO (I have one here at home and one at work I can use) but having refused my new line as a large letetr yesterday I will go back to the crown PO for a while.
That in turn will make her cross as she is borderline for being closed, she only escaped last time due to the fact that she has a lot of ebayers which means she will be very grumpy to me when I next go back.
AS for chatting, she knows all my children, all my business, she knows when I have hospital appointments and exactly what I sell (I often take her in a gift when I have a new line if it is a cheapie to show her what I sell). Shutting me up is the problem!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. This large letter thing must ave given the post office no end of headaches. I know of a small sub post office who insists items are large letters when I know they are not. Its not just the thickness but the dimensions too. We are very careful with our packaging and are usually correct in our decision of LL or package. They will send it as a package with the comment 'well if you want to waste money'.0

I had to apply for a visit visa for a relative to come to Saudi, while i was in England, i had to use a postal order.
I went into the main Post Office in Warrington for the postal order. I had never used/bought one before.
I cant remember the amount, but for an example the PO was ten pounds and the assistant asked for 12.50.
I said i only wanted a ten pound PO and she told me it was their fee.
So i would know for next time i asked why there was a fee. The assistant gave me a lecture and shouted that the Post Office wasnt a charity, he did rant a bit. I was very annoyed, so annoyed i thought it better to say nothing as i may say something that i would definitely regret. My husband and I came out of the office... fuming!
Counter staff are counter staff, they should know about the product they are selling and also understand that when their customers dont know about a product, the facts are all the are necessary.
I wrote a complaint, named the member of staff. A couple of weeks later had a letter to say that person had been spoken to and would be going on some sort of course to update their customer relations skills.
Little jobs worth!
Its the only bad experience i have ever had with the Post Office, i've usually found them very knowledgeable and helpful0 -

I have only been in that Post Office once. Walked in with a parcel, saw the huge queue snaking round the shop, stood in it for a few minutes before muttering some obscenities under my breath and walking right out.
The queue just didn't move at all, and I was so far back I couldn't even see how many staff they had serving.
After that I have always stuck to the smaller Post Offices nearby, normally quite helpful and the queues seem to move reasonably quickly even if they only have two staff on.0
