Restaurants in Bournemouth/Poole

It is worth venturing into Bournemouth if you stay away from the chain and tourist restaurants. I can highly recommend Tapas Plus which is a family run Spanish restaurant (avoid the recently opened La Tasca, only a few doors away, which I'm sure would be glad to put the little guys out of business!)0

There's a Harry Ramsdens just by the Pier at Bournemouth.
It's quite good!0 -
Try the Inn in the Park at Branksome Chine for lovely pub grub, a great selection of local fish dishes and excellent beer, wine & champagne selection and just a short stroll from the beach.:cool:0

bit late for the OP, but as a resident of Poole, my recommendations would be
Guildhall Tavern in the Old Town. It used to be a pub, now it's an amazing seafood restaurant.
Rising Sun, Poole - excellent Thai food in a pub setting.
City Bay Views - chinese. Really top quality experience. No MSG's used, ask for a water facing table as you are on the first floor facing the harbour.
Mak's Garden - buffet chinese. However, they bring it to you rather than you having to get it from the heated cabinets so it feels like a 'proper' sit down meal rather than a serve yourself. Up for sale sadly, but try to go for a cheap, good chinese meal.
Not a fan of eating in Bournemouth, although there is a Mexican my friend raves about in Charminster.
Others which are 'good' but not 'amazing'
Corkers - on the Quay. Very traditional service - waiters in bow ties etc. not the place it used to be, but good for, say, a 60th family meal
Las Margaritas - Mexican on the Quay. Good for a birthday party, nothing spectacular but pretty good.
Sweet Home Inn, Ringwood Rd, Poole. Family run pub and the landlady (Dianne) cooks the food. Good sized portions, popular for Sunday lunch, traditional choices of food.
Shah of Persia, corner of Ringwood Road/Longfleet Rd/Fernside Rd - Carvery. Popular for this on a Sunday, other than that, wouldn't bother. It's a pub with a small hotel now."Stay Wonky":D

Pretty sure it's now a 'gastro pub' though owned by the sam epeople. the Christchurch one is still definitely thai orientated but teh menu in Poole is a lot more English now0 -
A lot of these restaurants that folk have recommended can be found on the Yourmealticket web site (I would add a link, but apparently I'm not allowed - have a peeky for it in your search engine). On there you'll find loads of discounts and money off coupons to download to use in restaurants all over Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch, including La Mammas (a personal favourite!). Hope this helps : )0

A year too late, but thanks anyhow.loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0 -
Interested in the thread - going to Bournemouth w/c 20th June.
How many J D wetherspoon places are there now? Any 'Buy 1 get one' free places? Or anything else similar?I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -
There is a Wetherspoons in the main part of the town centre- and another one on Old Christchurh road - near the Fire station. May well be others. Personally I avoid eating in them, I think you can do better elsewhere, although they do serve a purpose.
Also the usual suspects- Slug and lettuce, Prezzo, Zizzi, Pizza Express etc all of which usually do a BOGOF type offer.0 -

Oops! Yes, sorry about that, RedPete. Then again, Yourmealticket didn't exist last yearBut it's well worth a quick peek if you're eating out in Poole, Christchurch or Bournemouth. Chances are good that the venue you're visiting is on Yourmealticket and will have some kind of voucher to save money.
