Selling livestock on ebay?

Rules are rules folks, but common sense should really prevail.
i agree, think there are worse listing than this on ebay
Yep there is... but if hamsters are ok to list then where do you stop? Animals are alive and shouldn't be passed on as easily as a book or a DVD. Responcible homes should be found or frankly hand the animals to a rescue who can look after them.DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Sellign any animal to a complete stranger on Ebay or AdTrader IMHO is wrong no matter how you look at it... Maybe that's because I everyday deal with the results of people dumping dogs, cats and so on and every week hundreds of volunteers spend countless hours trying to save as many of these animals from being put down in pounds because someone wanted somethign "newer and more trendy" or because they didn't realise a puppy isn't magically house trained, the cats don't automatically know what it's allowed to scratch and rabbits and hamster DO BITE.
It SHOULD be against the law but no it isn't, however it IS against Ebay rules and thank Dog for that!
BTW the listing was removed
Tine, to answer your points simply:
A) It would specify in the auction or you would go collect it, put simply (not exactly rocket science I think you'd agree).
. Selling an animal to a stranger?>> Now correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the basis of how any 'pet shop' works? Stranger walks in, buys pet, walks out. Same concept here, only difference being, the actual transaction is done over the web.
Of course, the selling of any animal is agaisnt Ebay policy, I hasten to add

a) nope it ain't rocket science... but think seriously about some of the questions that have been asked by bidders for "normal" items on ebay...
b) Never said it was any different from pet shops... but in fact they are bound by certain laws and regulated by the local councils I believe. Want to take bets on how difficult it would be to regulate "pet outlets" trading solely on ebay?
Just for the books then I don't really agree with pet shops either... But that is an entirely different story

Thanks for your response Tine
Point A I agree with you on, even with your normal, bog-standard items, some weird and wonderful questions get asked.
Point B, I was eluding to the fact that pet shops work in a similar fashion, where customers are complete strangers. From your point about law and regs, I infer that pet shop owners may not allow some customers to purchase certain animals? Altho, I can't for the life of me see why. If that's not the case or point you were making, I apologise, been a long day n all that :rolleyes:0 -
Well in all fairness to all then I've had a rotten monday too so might be a little tetchier than I usually am

I was kinda twisting part of your point about pet shops as you're right yes they will sell to anyone most of the time, however they do occasionally refuse to sell to people, it's their discression I guess... What they are regulated on is the conditions the animals are kept in and their welfare. Something most people who'd be attaracted to selling on Ebay wouldn't care a hoot about... I guess some days I just get really fustrated when people try to tell me that it would be better to allow the sale of a few hamsters on Ebay go un-noticed as they'll probably be in the hands of people who'll dispose of them in less than humane ways... I think the point I am trying to make is that we have enough problems with puppy farms etc If we let them openly loose on something like Ebay then the population explosion of animals in rescues would be enourmous. If I could I'd stop the un-vetted sale of any animal, but I sadly can't. I guess for now I'll just have to carry on shaking my head when the pounds and rescues fill up with the latest fad of pet... Nothing is sadder than when you can see the direct impact of easily availble animals from breeders who only careabout making money. Dalmations, Pugs (MIB) and so on...
Anyway enough from me tonight
I'm getting on to one of my hobby horses here and going way off track
