After posting on another thread, it struck me that some folk might think it strange to insist on having shoes off at the door....
so, answer the poll if you want to.

Yes, even the cat has its paws cleaned - no mud in our house!

Yes, even the meter reader has to leave his shoes at the door.

Just family do it, wouldn't ask any other visitor to do it.

No way, life is for living, not for worrying abut a muddy carpet or two.

When my carpet was really new, I didn't like shoes on it. Now it's a year old I really don't care. I know my friends and family also didn't care that I wanted shoes off.

We dont have carpets now and I dont really care if people take their shoe off - unless I have just cleaned it - but I voted just family as most of my family & visitors take their shoes off when they come anyway. I love my gorgeous little girl0

We have no carpet downstairs, but even if we did, I would never ask anyone to remove their shoes.
We all tend to throw our shoes off indoors, but put them on if someone comes to the door!
I have never been asked to remove my shoes in someone else's house either - I would find it odd and very insulting if I was expected to.
The only time I would expect the kids to take their shoes off at the door is if they're coming in with muddy riding boots, or shoes full of sand from the beach, but that's it. That doesn't always happen either:rolleyes:.I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

I've always asked everybody to take their shoes off, except for workmen as safety has to come first.I just cover carpets with dust sheets then.
I just could'nt live with all the dirt and grime coming in from outside.0 -
As we live in a muddy wooded area the kids all take their shoes off as they come in. I don't ask anyone else to do it though.0

Got hard floors downstairs so easy to clean. The boys have to remove their shoes on entering as they can't tell the difference between walking around in clean shoes and walking around in shoes with half a football field stuck on the soles
Not so bothered with the adults or visitors, although I tend to kick my shoes off when I come home as I prefer not to wear shoes!
The dog has an old washing up bowl and towel in the garage. If the field is muddy, I bathe his feet before he's allowed back in. He's got big fluffy paws and the mud sticks in clumps on them. He doesn't like that and tries to pretend he has less legs than he really does :rotfl:Here I go again on my own....0 -
We don't but then we don't have carpet downstairs and never seem to leave our shoes on long once we are home anyway.
Quite a few of my relatives insist on it, even for visitors, though and I can see the sense in saving capets and/or cleaning.
Muddy shoes come off at the door, obviously!0 -
Don't think I've ever asked anyone to take their shoes off, but most people are fairly sensible - they'll see me taking mine off and slip theirs off too - not rocket science...
Wouldn't ask anyone to take them off unless they had really muddy shoes etc. Life's too short to spend it cleaning carpets0 -
We all take ours off when we get through the door.
Nothing nasty then gets trodden through the house.
I might seem dull to some to do it, but i have had an occaision when a friends childs trod dog poo from the street all through downstairs, although def not the child's fault (dog owner should have cleared up after the dog), certainly not a nice thing to have to do when visitors arrive also my friend was so embarressed.
I dont insist on people taking shoes off, but the children's friends all do but thats because it's what their parents have taught themMy beloved dog Molly27/05/1997-01/04/2008RIP my wonderful stepdad - miss you loads:Axxxxxxxxx:Aour new editionsSenna :male: and Dali :female: both JRT0 -
I used to get people to take theirs off, but now with kids in and out and a dog there really is no point at all:heartpulsOnce a Flylady, always a Flylady:heartpuls0
