I quite often ask people if i can pick the items up if there in the same area as me.
So far ive never been told no,
Just easier, cheaper and quicker at getting my stuff that way also i can pay in cash.0 -
I wouldn't allow a collection on anything that can be posted to prevent fraudalent Paypal chargebacks.
Remember if the buyer collects they can claim that they haven't recieved the item and you have no way of proving posting.
Pessimistic I know, but real.Third time lucky on WW I hope :j

I don't see they problem personally, i figure they know your address so they could come round anytime they wanted. If you do let them collect though, don't let them give you cash.
Why not cash, I find that the best way. I sold somthing recently and got £140 cash for it in person.
Paypal is dodgy, cheque don't clear right away, so what other options are there for home pick ups?0 -

This is what I don't like, the ease at your address being given out, I think even the NPB's get it too!0 -
Hi
I dont allow collections for lots of reasons,- people getting lost, not turning up when they say, paypal charge backs , also my own security and because time wise it doesnt suit me. I think as I am selling to suit me that I am entitled not to allow collections. Why should I wait in for two hourrs for someone to save £4 ?. Why should I risk my security allowing a complete stranger to come to my house ?
I did allow one or two collections before but then decided that after the hassle I deserve to consider my needs.I sell on ebay to suit me, as most people pobably do with kids and jobs. ALthough I try to help customers as much as possable their is a line- if people dont like it then go elsewhere. If they think Im being selfish by not alowwing them to collect an item- are they not being selfish by demanding that I do what they want ?
Hence I now put on all my listings -no collections. And I still get people emailing me, to which I reply it is my policy not to allow collections as they cause too much hassle.
Stick with your needs and your gut instincts. :A0 -

I have only allowed collection on a car and things honestly unsuitable to post. I did state very clearly how quickly I wanted the item collected and when was suitable for me. Ok I'm lucky the police dog lviving next door and the police van parked outside helps put off potential trouble I think, but for things other than say a car or something truely HUGE then nope no collection. IF you do get people come to collect then whether or not they have paid in cash GET A SIGNED RECEIPT! State on it how it was paid ie paid in full cash and make them initial it and if they want then do the same for them
(obviously put the ebay auction details on the receipt too)

I have had a few bad experiences with collections so I now state I won't allow people to collect items in my auction blurb. I had one guy turn up drunk. Another couple turned up stinking like they have never washed! They had to come into the house because the item was heavy and it took ages for me to get rid of the smell. I am a female living on her own, my front door is down the side of the house so someone could push their way in without anyone seeing. My neighbours keep themselves to themselves to they are no help. I also had problems with a guy who wanted to collect, but could only come on his way home from work. I work long hours and couldn't be home at that time so he said he wasn't going to buy the item. In my experience people either want to collect in the early evening when I am still at work or they want to come at the weekend when I am out doing all those chores I don't have time to do during the week! I have spent Sundays sitting in waiting for people who don't turn up or who turn up 2 hours late. As Sundays is often my only day off from work I don't want to spend it sitting at home.
So, six months ago I made the decision to just not allow collections. If people don't bid on my auctions because of that that is fine.0 -

Thats true, i didn't think of people doing chargebacks for non delivery etc. I have NO idea what was going through my mind.Accept that some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.0
