Watchers asked a question I need ur help for my reply PLEASE. x

A potential buyer has just asked emailed and asked me, if they were to be the winning bidder, could they collect the item in person from my house - thing is I don't feel comfortable with this and would much rather post items out.

I don't want to offend the potential buyer, so could you PLEASE give me some type of nice reply, preferably one that still keeps them interested in my item.

They are just trying to save money on postage. You are right to not want people collecting from your doorstep, I post 200 a month, I don't want them all coming to my door. I just tell the person interested that I don't do home collections on this item, its not my policy. If its a big and heavy then yes I consider it, I have had a few home collections.

If its small and light post it no matter what, they should pay the postage.

Just thank the potential buyer for their interest but unfortunately you don't offer buyers collecting winning items from your house.
I think that's fair and polite.

  • Hi

I have asked this question to a seller before and just got the reply 'sorry, postage only'.

I don't think you need to go into a long explanation as to reasons why you do not accept collection, just be polite and say you can only post.

If you are not comfortable with people collecting things from your house then that is your choice!!! - if they don't like it then they don't have to bid!!

    Thats my opinion anyway...... :o

I understand how you feel - I'd explain that you'd prefer to post it, that obviously no offence, but that you wouldn't feel comfortable having strangers visit the house. You could always offer to reduce the postage slightly, if that is why they want to pick it up.

It can also be dodgy having strangers round at your house, you never know who they are. Just post, like the above poster you dont need a reason. If they really want the item they will understand and do it at your terms. Remember also there are also a lot of timewasters wanting info for nothing, I have give them in the past just the answers that they are looking for but then dont buy it!
  • As both a bidder & seller I'd understand completly how you feel. If they are a genuine bidder they'll understand.

    Have you done it yet?

    Maybe...

Hi, thanks for your enquiry. Unfortunately I'm not comfortable with having items collected from my home, I will post the item as detailed in the auction.

I used to accept pick-ups, but always made sure they were not at my home. Mostly I would pick the local train station. Be careful.

Would you be more comfortable if they collected it from you from elsewhere, somewhere near your home but not?

I don't see they problem personally, i figure they know your address so they could come round anytime they wanted. If you do let them collect though, don't let them give you cash.

I will admit that if someone lives 2 miles away from me and its going to cost me £5 + in postage, then I will take offense to it and not bid, as Its silly !!

I`m the same as the last poster- they know our address anyway, and you could always arrange to have a neighbour/partner be in to answer the door with you. It is rare that people ask to collect the items from your home, so I do offer it in my listings.
