HI Hypno - Well done on starting the next chapter.:T I know it is hard to give up £4K but I would for the sake of a bit of sanity. You and your kids are only young once you need some family time without hangers on too! Perhaps just keep your options open on the summer students.

I hear your concerns about your OH's job too. Do you have any emergency savings at all? If not I would recommend starting some so you could manage 3-6 months without his job if you had to. Also I did a "catastrophe" budget to see what was the minimum I could live on if I had to. That is what is helping me get thro now the "worst" has happened and my job has ended.

My role is quite high skill but even so the agencies told me it was likely to take 3-6 months to get a job. I started looking mid Jan so I am hoping I am about to get a job or am at least half way there! It may be worth your OH polishing up his CV and registering with agencies or whatever now while the going is good and that way if the worst does happen he has some options.

Breathe - relax - chill - take a weight off - you deserve it. Do what's right for you and your family even if it slows down the unbelieveably hectic pace at which you have been living!:A

Thanks SH - We have started saving - don't have a huge amount, but it is building up slowly......when OH walked out of his previous job last year (if only we had realised then how shaky things would be now, he would have persevered and stayed put!!) I realised just how close to the wire we were without a fall back. So I started putting away £100 a month into an ISA - not much but it all helps. I also have my "debt pot" which is designed to clear the loan early, but if absolutely necessary can be used to "survive".

I am also doing the "what if" stuff......and have made reasonable progress. If nothing else, it is focussing the mind a bit. Hopefully it won't be necessary, but if it is, well it won't be so much of a shock and a problem as it might otherwise have been.

Sadly, OH's idea of keeping your eyes open for another job, is not the same as mine.......I fear he will not really start looking until he is handed his notice or told to clear his desk!

Well pehaps he needs a shock: Drive him around the red-light district and tell him that this is where he'll be selling his bottom if he loses his job.

That should focus his mind... ;) :rotfl:

Just another quick post to say THANK YOU to all those people who have very very kindly given up some of their hard earned cash to sponsor me for the Marathon - I am totally amazed :T

My boss is matching everything £ for £ too, so it means that Mencap get double :j

    Thank you all!!

I have just got in, and so far have not had chance to do anything on my list from this morning other than checking online banking. I didn't even get chance to walk downstairs to the bank and pay in my cheque, yet alone do my online shopping or menu plan......must try harder tomorrow!!
