We have had a student for the last five years - that means that as well as our own teenagers, we run around after another one as well. Because they are under 18, we have full parental responsibility, so it is not like having a university student who just uses the house as "digs" and who does their own thing. We have to include the student in everything we do, so if we go out for a meal, the student comes too, if we go and visit friends or relatives, the student comes too, etc, etc.
And of course, if the student gets plastered and finds herself passed out in someone's front garden at 3am, then it is up to us to go and pick her up.........
So, even though the students are generally nice people, we do earn our money, and it does take a fair bit of our space, both physically and mentally!
I can't "afford" to throw away £4000, obviously, it is a lot of money, and it is not easy to replace, of course. BUT, I am tired, and it would be nice just to be a family with our own issues and lives rather than having someone else's to deal with as well!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Yes, beanie, sorry - I meant to pm and say thank you
They arrived while I was away. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
We have had summer school language students too - they are usually here for 2 or 3 weeks at a time, but they are generally younger. In some ways they are fine, because the language school has a fairly busy schedule for them, so they keep occupied, but on the other hand, they are using it as a fortnight away from their parents, so they get up to all sorts :rotfl:
One thing is for sure though, we wouldn't have got through the last few years without the students - especially the first one or two - the sigh of relief we felt when we got accepted for the first one was immense. Also, I worked so bloomin hard getting the house immaculate for the inspection from Childrens Services, that I DESERVED £4000 for effort :rotfl:Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. A new film comes out and the TREKKIES come!
Live long and prosper!
Hey actually that's a good movie to watch Hypno, make you feel better about debt... Lots of explosions and meaningless jibbering about Tackion beams and reverse polarity!:beer: Debt Free since July 2011 and it feels good!
Now it's all about finding a deposit for a house!
How do you amass £70k in a year?! :eek:0 -

I can't wait till that film comes out - I love Star Trek. Not enough to call myself a Trekker though. I hate the nerds with no sense of humour. I am a nerd with a sense of humour I think

Ditto! But it's all about the Stargate franchise for me

Or if it's the original Captain Kirk: "May the toupee be with you...always...""Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)
"We were born and raised in a summer haze." Adele 'Someone like you.'
"Blowing your mind, 'cause you know what you'll find, when you're looking for things in the sky." OMD 'Julia's Song'0
